Reasonable motel in Winton

Old Style motel. rooms are a bit small but the rooms have been repainted, the beds are comfortable, the shower has good hot water and the staff are helpful and pleasant.

Thanks for the four day part of my stay - didn't hesitate to book the extra night, would rebook because it is near the Winton Pool, the grocers and main street, ideal for Red Dirt Tours as well.

Very nice place to stay in Winton

While the motel is old it was a great place to stay as it is very close to the main street in Winton. It is quiet and the motel has new linen, towels and bedspreads. They also have the most amazing birds.

Managers were excellent. The bathroom is terrible. It’s need a total refurb. The bed had roll together so we used a single as well. You heard noise and movement when your neighbours moved in their room next door. We stayed 3 nights

Photos much better than reality. Reception area highly secured, which was unnerving re our security. But turned out security was not a concern. Balcony area outside the room dirty. Aircon not on before we checked in and I worked out had not been on for days. Consequently, the uninsulated former demountable room was very very hot when we arrived around 4.30pm. Meant the aircon which was extremently loud had to work overtime to bring the temp down, why not put the aircon on earlier??? Room was clean, bathroom only just ok. Fridge just ok. The location being next to the Municipal pool was a big plus. That pool is really excellent and to be recommended. Also the park in front of it with wonderfully clean free electric BBQ and shaded seating areas - old fashioned community facilities, which we really enjoyed.

The room was excellent and the staff very helpful. There was NO OUTDOOR POOL at all, as advertised on the WOTIF website. The pool was the Municipal pool for the Winton township, and is closed in winter anyway. When we remonstrated about the pool to reception, we were told they were not responsible. We could see it over the fence. There was also no garden at all. The walls between the units were very thin - we could hear if the next door occupants coughed.

There were stained shower tiles and shower base. In one room there was no heating. In another room the bed lamps did not work. One lamp had no switch and the other was hanging by the wires. In one room there were 2 cups while in the other there was 1 cup and 1 plate. The roadway to the rooms was uneven and covered with water.

There were 2 new chairs like in the photos but 3 old ones. The table was very wobbly and with kids this isn't great. The fridge was terrible and we had to throw out most of our food as it had perished. The kettle was so badly stained from the water (which can't be helped), but needed to be replaced, I wouldn't use it. The walls reminded me of the old school portables which they removed from schools due to unsafe material in the walls, so I wasn't happy my children were sleeping next to it. The staff were lovely and accommodating. But it was really dated, tired and needed updating.

If could give less than 1 star I would. Wifi didn’t work. Visible black mould all over the bathroom roof. A clear health hazard to my son (who has a mould allergy) and pregnant wife. Beds were some of the worse I’ve seen. Tv reception was horrible plus the tv picture was damaged. Went to reception to ask for a refund as we simply couldn’t stay in a room with so much significant mould with my sons allergy. She said “it’s not mould. It’s just worn paint”. But if you want a refund you will need to contact wotif and they will need to contact us to do that. Found public wifi in town to contact Wotif. Who then contacted Matilda Hotel. To which she said “we can swap them to a different room (which was never offered at the time). At this stage we already had to book another room in town. Owner refused to refund and said “tough luck”. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. If this was the last motel in town. I simply would not stop in Winton

A single room cabin for $170 a night. We booked for 2 nights in advance. But when we approached the place to check in after a long drive we thought, "are you serious?". The signage was from a desert scene in The Terminater movie. Externally, a very run down establishment, poorly maintained. The grounds are ridiculous. The cabin air con worked well to counter the cold in the night (late May). No cook facilities. Its just an old place that suits the dinosaur context of Winton. The town deserves better.
