We enjoyed the setting of the property and the historic feel and decor of the motor lodge. The grounds were beautiful and the location was convenient to family we were visiting in the area. However, the room had a musty smell as if it had not been used in some time, and I think there were issues with the humidity in the room. We took our bathroom towels into the main room and spread them on chairs to dry, but they never got fully dry. Humidity may have been the reason for the odor as well. Additionally, while the free coffee and bakery items were appreciated, the long lines at the counter, which included guests as well as members of the public purchasing items, made the bakery staff seem very stressed. It would be nice if the complimentary items for guests could be set out in a different area of the inn, not requiring a line, or just moving to an in-room coffee option. I would not expect an included breakfast at a historic inn and would have been satisfied with just in-room coffee if that had been available.

Will never understand any condition, stay here again. I will make it clear that the lovely women at check in are NOT the reason for this negative review. The women were helpful, friendly and very efficient. This place does not have proper signage and he couldn’t figure out what building was check in. We went into one and saw a front desk that said to call for assistance. I was reaching for the phone when a woman appeared. She was very hostile and did not want to help. She asked me why I was touching the phone. Before I could say it was to call for assistance she asked if we were even staying in this house. My mum who was with me said we were looking for check in and registration. She told us thats in a different building. We asked how we know which one, at this point she was walking away back turned to us telling us to ‘follow the signs’ Eventually we checked in and made it to our room. The room should never have been rented. It was so insanely musty, wet and I’m sure moldy. It was so wet and humid when you lay down on the beds you can feel how wet they are. It took us 4 attempts to figure the ac as it kept turning back onto heat. It was so hot and smelly we got Febreze to try and sleep. The toilet was also gross. Seat so chipped and stained I thought it has particles stuck on but its just the paint and wood of it all chipped away. Friends stayed in another room, their room was no better. We talked to 2 other guests and their rooms are exactly the same. Toilet was also super

The price was right for an overnight during a holiday weekend, and it included hot drinks and baked goods at their bake shop. However, the room was in the their furthest located ‘motor lodge’ section, which was dark and hard to see the last bit of the drive. Plus, the room had a strange smell (not smoke or must, but maybe their cleaning supplies have a different smell?) No fridge in room. Floors are all strangely uneven, maybe the building has settled? Was concerned about highway noise, but ran the A/C and it wasn’t an issue.

I had originally booked a room in the Motor Lodge because it was the cheapest. I was only staying for one night as a stopover on my way to Canada. There was an issue with over- booking so they upgraded me to The Chamberlain House for the same price. It was a very nice room and very quiet. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay.

It goes without saying that the property is exquisite. The accommodations are phenomenal. The rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. However, the one aspect of our stay that stood out repeatedly was the interaction with the staff. Unfortunately we can only give a 1-star review. When we checked in - the front desk kept answering the phone while we were trying to check in. It was very off-putting. When he finally did attend to us, it felt like his mind was someplace else because he kept repeating himself and talking with the other staff member. When we checked out, the front desk attendee did not ask whether we enjoyed our stay, if there were any problems, what room we were in, etc. It was a very hurried and non-personal experience. A word to management: a quick re-training for front staff in customer service and interaction might be in order. Other than that - the property speaks for itself. This property might benefit from self-check-in service.

Kudos to the Publick House and its staff. Great two night getaway. Lodging at Chamberlin House was perfect as was our meals at both the Tavern and Taproom. Spent an afternoon at the Yankee Candle Village in South Deerfield. Also, enjoyed the complimentary cofffee and goodies at the PH Bake Shop

We stayed at the Country Motor Lodge, part of the Publick House property, and had a great experience. The room was clean, spacious, and felt very private. It had a nostalgic, roadside charm that reminded me of a classic family road trip—slightly quirky, but in a good way. In the morning, they offered complimentary coffee, tea, and a baked good, which was an easy and appreciated touch. The location is also close to plenty of great little restaurants and breakfast spots in Sturbridge, making it a convenient and affordable stop—especially for families.

The wedding venue was lovely, and the bake shop is excellent! However, the bathroom was full of fire ants and when I mentioned this to the girl at check-out she didn't even say sorry. All she said was "did you tell someone?" and I said, "I just did." Also, I have stayed in many hotels, and this is the first one that didn't have a coffee pot in the room.

We liked the property once we figured out how to get to the rooms. I don’t believe the food in the dining room was up to standard. I had pot roast and it was very dry. More gravy didn’t help. My wife's fish was perfect. Service was ok. On site bakery was very good. The grounds and plantings are beautiful. I am handicapped but they put me on the second floor. Climbing stairs with luggage isn't fun for me.

The room was very clean, the beds were super comfortable, the towels were thick and soft, and the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. This isn’t a chain hotel, it’s a historic inn that is very charming. The complementary beverages and pastries in the morning were delicious. Thank you.
