(1) The Feria de las Flores ends in a high with El Desfile de Silleteros. Back in the day, wealthy people would travel by being carried by other humans in a chair they would hang from their head. These people where known as silleteros, term derived from the Spanish word for chair, "silla". Farmer would also use this method for carrying their crops to sell them down in Medellin. (3) The Feria de las Flores honors the days Medellin’s streets would be dressed with flowers by humble farmers walking around selling them. Only families from Santa Elena are allowed to participate in the parade. Which is very special because it’s the descendants of the original silleteros who fill Medellin’s streets every year in their honor. Pictured was the winning Silleta from 2013. (4) To be honest, the best view of the parade is from home on TV, that is if you want to see the silletas better on the day of… However, you don’t want to miss being there, the atmosphere is incredible. So I got you the best solution. The nights before you can go up to Santa Elena (about 30 mins from Medellin) where you will find all the participants working on them right in their homes! Everything was very nice. The room was clean and thoughtfully designed. It is a brand new hotel and it is good condition. Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable. Balcony nice to have reasonable rates for this property.
