An inexpensive place to spend the night. The rooms were clean. Unfortunately the staff has little control over the condition of the shared WC and how some guests aren’t always careful about tidying up after themselves. The staff are great. And the location is good for walking around town
For the price it is fine. Owners wife is very friendly attentive and helpful. You don’t come here looking for a luxury experience of course. Value is what you want and what you get.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very cheerful.
The family running the guest house was so kind and helpful. The two children were delightful. Busy and active but very respectful and inquisitive at the same time.
Although not the Ritz Carlton, the guesthouse was clean and comfortable. I would certainly stay again.
The place is not adequately kept and looks terrible. I got many e-mails insisting on paying in cash and pushing me to pay for parking on the property when parking in the street and the area, as the whole country, is highly safe. She insisted so much that we paid even though we did not use it and left the car in another place.
They also offered a drive to the airport and the driver was nice and courteous.

The family was very nice, it was clean. The stairs to the third floor were narrow and a bit steep. We had luggage for a month and this was our last stop, despite being in late 60s we were strong enough to take it up. There was NO shower on our floor. Well there WAS a shower on our floor,
but we weren't allowed to use it.. We had to listen or go down and check when the shower was free on the second floor. Going down the stairs one night carrying my things l was thinking, YIKES l hope l don't fall. The shower area had NO chair, bench or stool for your items! There were hooks on the wall one of which was broken. There was only a toilet and sink on the third floor, the handle on the door to the toilet and sink room was coming apart from the inside.
I spent almost a week at Egilsborg Guesthouse in Reykjavik. While I expected this place to be more like a hostel than the Hilton, it is not a professionally run hostel. I won’t repeat the details of the other low star reviews, other than to confirm that I experienced those things as well.
I’ll express two concerns:
1. Food hygiene
2. Mental health
When I arrived, I was greeted with the smell of rotting food. It was the communal refrigerator. It was cleaned out at one point, but raw meat is frequently stored with produce. Mixed in between is open containers of stale food like pizza, hotdogs, yogurt, open drinks, etc. For two of my days here there was not soap in the WC and there never was a way to dry your hands. During the week I was there, there was not running water for 5 days in the “kitchen” that appeared to be under construction. There was an evening that there was no water for the only functioning shower.
The other concern was psychological. It seems that a family lives here. The children were well-behaved; an adult was not. The yelling and door slamming made me feel uncomfortable, and it was a sentiment shared by my cohorts.
All this being said, I would give four stars to the caretaker/ manager. The caretaker is doing a lot with a little. I observed the caretaker earnestly in cleaning and doing the work of three. From this experience I can only recommend that Expedia remove this as a listing.
Unable to check in. Need a last minute booking. Property is still selling. Then send message asking for late check in fee as high as room price. Avoid this property at all cost.
Nice location with great access to the city center and bus stop number 13. Nice staff and very responsive.

An additional kr3,000 for bedding and kr4,000 to park for just a few hours doubled the cost of the stay.

Clean but a bit dated. Nice welcome. It‘s not worth 500 € if you need to travel there on a saturday or any other busy day.

Eigelsborg should update their photos on Expedia, the quaint dining area looks nothing like the photo. It should be stated up front, that this is a bare-bones backpacker’s facility, you have to rent pillow, blanket & towel.
It was ok in cleanliness, nothing bad comes to mind but it was not the cleanest place i have been.

I did not stay in this hotel. EXPEDIA must not include this hotel in your list...because this hotel is not telling their guests beforehand that NO BLANKET is supplied. I have to rent beddings and pillows and towels...disgusting.
Read the small print. Even though we were a family of 6 checking late instead of charging $60 for a late check in they charged us $360 for each person. It is in the rules but crazy - same situation if you actually want an old blanket and pillow. On the positive side it is possible to walk downtown from the location.
