Due to its strategic and central location, Luxembourg has switched hands more than once through the centuries. It was part of the Roman Empire for centuries before being sold several times to different dukes between the 14th and the 16th century. It fell into the hands of the French in the 18th century and officially became independent in 1867.
Remich is locally famous for its wine. The hilly region around the town is full of vineyards on both the Luxembourgian and the German side of the Moselle. Explore the vineyards by bicycle or on foot. Just north of Remich, you will find Caves St Martin, wine cellars nestled in the calcareous rock.
There are also a number of boats that offer tours along the Moselle. The city of Luxembourg is also a must with the impressive Pétrusse casemates, the Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art and the 13th-century Place Guillaume II.
The town of Dalheim is also nearby and chock-a-block with culture, such as the ancient Gallo-Roman amphitheatre that once held up to 3,500 spectators.
Remich's hilly countryside is perfect for cycling and hiking. Taste wine at one of the local vineyards, explore the village and take a boat trip on the Moselle.
Remich is pretty remote and best reached by car. If you do want to travel by public transport, you'll still have to take a cab from Luxembourg train station, which is about 25 km from Remich.
