Muncaster Castle viewed from the south-west. The oldest parts of the castle are believed to have been built in the 14th century, possibly on the site of a Roman fort. It was extensively refurbished during the Victorian era.

Bar service was slow. Breakfast in the restaurant wasn't great. Everything was pre-cooked, and the fried eggs had obviously been sat there for a long time. In the bistro the breakfasts were freshly cooked and amazing

As soon as we stepped through the door, it felt like home from home. Clean, modern but with original features. So beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The view from our window, that overlooked the garden, was just lovely. We cannot wait to stay there again.

Privately owned by the Pennington family for over 800 years it has a beautiful interior with a magnificent library, and most notably Himalayan Gardens. Really enjoyed the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway trip up to Boot and back. Impressed by the small size of the village yet there were three pub/eating places and a small village shop! Potential for nice walks especially at low tide.
