"As a first time bnb guest, I loved it. James and Connie were very welcoming and made for great conversation during breakfast with the other guests. So much history in the house and area. We spent most of our time in Abingdon - antiquing, dining, and the barter theater. Apparently there's much to discover in Damascus for next time though! We valued the private bathroom in the honeymoon suite, but FYI does not have a shower just a tub, but there was a public shower down the hall. Thanks guys...

"My stay was excellent once I was able to check in after having to cancel my reservation made on EXPEDIA. Econolodge staff bent over backwards to try and get EXPEDIA’s third party payment to go through (I paid with One Key Cash) but ultimately could not even after an hour back and forth on the phone with Expedia. Barter Theatre, located in Abingdon, Virginia, opened on June 10, 1933, when the country was in the middle of the Great Depression. Most patrons were not able to pay the full ticket price. Robert Porterfield, founder of the theatre, offered admittance by letting the local people pay with food goods, hence the name "Barter". The original ticket price for a play was 40 cents, or the equivalent in goods. In 1946, Barter Theatre was designated the State Theatre of Virginia.
