Plasencia is a small, discreet town in the north of Extremadura that is home to many monuments. Its great cultural and historical heritage along with its perfect location for getting to the magnificent natural landscapes that surround it, both in the region of La Vera and Valle del Jerte, make taking a holiday in Plasencia an increasingly popular option.
Thanks to its location on the ancient Ruta de Plata (Silver Route), Plasencia can boast a long history, as evidenced by the numerous monuments it houses. Don’t miss Plasencia’s cathedral, which is actually made up of two buildings: an old 13th century part in a style transitioning from Romanesque to Gothic and another newer part from the 16th century with a Plateresque façade. Close to the cathedral, you can admire the medieval walls that surround the centre of the town.
A short distance from there, you’ll find Plaza Mayor, the town’s main square, where a lively market is held every morning, before the bars and restaurants take over later in the day with their terraces. Plasencia enjoys good transport links by road, thanks to the A66, affectionately known as the “Silver Highway”. In a little over half an hour, you can reach Cáceres, and in an hour and a half, you’ll be in Salamanca. The nearest international airport can be found in Bilbao.
