We arrived quite early and asked about early check-in, and the front desk kindly accommodated us, which we really appreciated. "Terrible experience. I arrived at 2am to find the establishment had overbooked and so did have a room for me. The night manager didn't seem to know that - just that she had instructions to send me to a small motel a block away, with incomprehensible directions to find a lock box in the dark where I would find a key. Whe I complained in the morning, the response was that it was better than not having a bed - as it they had done me a favour! The manager then asked me what I expected her to do...

"We had a great stay at The Observatory in Christchurch. It’s a beautiful hotel—formerly a university—and they’ve preserved the original aesthetic, which gives it a lot of character. The photos honestly don’t do it justice; it’s even more stunning in person. The room and bathroom were very spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, and everything was spotless. The location is also very convenient. Would definitely recommend staying here."
