Lie back and relax on Numana’s stunning sandy bays and swim in warm blue-green seas with Mount Conero providing a spectacular backdrop. Stroll around the marina to the sound of fluttering sails. Then head into the town centre to find museums and ancient relics.
Come to the beachfront where the town is alive with busy restaurants and shops. Rent lounge chairs and sleep in the sun or dip your toes in the small waves breaking on the shore. Leave the modern section of Numana and walk up the hill into the old town. Admire streets of traditional stone houses and do some people-watching from elegant coffee shops. Don’t miss the tiny Crucifix Sanctuary in the heart of this network of medieval buildings. The wooden cross here has a remarkable story, having been carried to Syria during the Crusades before later being recovered at sea by local fishermen in 1924.
Continue north toward the town hall, stopping to view the beautiful fountain on Via Morelli. Although simple in design, this limestone structure features five intricate mouths that were once used by thirsty pilgrims.
The town hall itself is an impressive, weathered building. Behind it is the Antiquarium. Discover a wonderful collection of archeological artefacts inside. Most have been found in Numana or neighboring Sirolo. One of the most fascinating items is the ruins of a chariot that has been dated to the Roman Empire.
