A rich cultural life, hearty local cuisine and a fantastic selection of picturesque beaches await in this thriving coastal city.

Moss is a very easy place to spend a few days, with its blend of a developed cultural scene and appealing natural attractions. Explore the waterfront, top up your tan, peruse interesting art collections and stop by some of the local farms to sample fresh produce.

Learn about the history of the town at the Moss By- og industrimuseum (Moss Town and Industry Museum). Discover how the coastal location of the settlement has long made it a natural place for industry to thrive.

When you are ready for a change of scenery, walk or cycle west to the picturesque island of Jeløy (sometimes Jeløya) which houses half the city’s residents. Here, take in some culture of a different kind. Find the city’s art establishments gathered on the island, many of them within the lush green conservation area at the island’s southern tip.

Wander through the impressive galleries of Galleri F15, an art collection located in an elegant historic manor. Other galleries within walking distance include the lovely Gallery Roed Jeløy, Galleri Varden and Refsnes Gods. The latter is located within a beautiful building that is also an upscale hotel and restaurant.

Spend a while exploring the attractions of the canal that separates the island from the mainland. These include some of the city’s most interesting restaurants and stores as well as a beach. Watch the boats bobbing in Moss Marina, or charter a fishing boat and head out on a daytrip.

Ekeby Farm, on the mainland and to the south of the city, is in a beautiful location and is very much worth visiting, especially if you have kids. Find out how goats are raised here and taste some locally produced food.

Travel from Oslo to Moss by car, a journey of less than an hour. Be sure to bring walking boots and a camera, as this scenic place is best explored on foot, and you will want to take lots of photos while you’re doing it.
