MoMA PS1 featuring outdoor art

Feel inspired, challenged and moved at one of the United States’ oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions, where experimental art flourishes.

MoMA PS1 is not your ordinary art gallery. The massive art space, which is one of the largest in the country, focuses on exhibitions rather than collections. It is a space where experimental art flows freely, where works are adventurous and daring, thought-provoking and stimulating. Be amazed and enthralled by the ever-changing exhibits. Enjoy a full program of music and entertainment too.

The gallery is housed in a converted former school building. It was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources, which was dedicated to presenting exhibitions in abandoned spaces across New York City. Visit the gallery today, almost 50 years later, to explore a contemporary space which hosts some of the most challenging and forward-thinking artists of our time.

Wander around MoMA PS1 to find art ranging from artists' retrospectives to site-specific installations and historical surveys. See art from across the country, Middle Eastern video art, dynamic structures and some highly innovative conceptual work.

MoMA PS1 plays host to a summertime lineup of music and cultural events. Grab some tickets to one of the Saturday afternoon Warm Up events, which run between July and September, to enjoy an impressive lineup of top bands, experimental music and big name DJs. Outside of the summer months, Sunday Sessions events offer culture-rich afternoon programs built around lectures, film screenings, comedy shows and more.

Find MoMA PS1 at 22-25 Jackson Avenue, which is easy to reach by cab, subway and bus. It is open from Thursday to Monday. Entry is by a donation of your choice. The Warm Up events do charge admission, but these vibrant, carefully curated lineups make it well worth it.
