This is where I grew up but I was back recently for a family wedding- it has grown beyond recognition. When I was a child it was the end of the train line with no stop lights, one lane in and out of town. Now it's a massive tourist hub. This picture is taken from the Skyrail, an absolute must do if you are there. It goes up to Kuranda, an artsy town in the rainforest. You can also get there by the train, which is great to - or go up one way down the other. This is a view out over Trinity Bay so called because Captain Cook sailed past on Trinity Sunday. Cairns is over the hill in the distance.

"The hotel is just out of town. 15 mins walk and 20 mins walk to the Superyacht marina. It’s a beautiful hotel. We had room 57 which was large and included a kitchen, dining table and lounge area. Large bathroom with tub and large balcony overlooking the pool and lagoon swim up bar. Ideally situated. Happy hour is 4-5pm. There’s lots of little nooks to explore. The main pool and 2 lap pools at the rear of the hotel. We didn’t come across the fitness centre or games room but they’re on the map....

"Crystal gave great instructions to enter the property after hours. Apartment was on the top floor (note no stairs for those with mobility issues). No problem for us at all. As part of our package a mid stay clean was offered which included restocking toilet paper, washing powder and dishwasher items - never usually included so that’s a real plus! Comfy beds and so close to everything including the beach a few steps away. Loved it! "

Bay Villas is located really close to the main shopping/eats street - great cheap shuttle service pick-up/drop off at your leisure. "Very close to reef terminal for tours. I loved the fact that towels were available as well as a free laundry facility. Staff is often not at the desk but they are often watching CCTV that covers the front desk and come when needed. It is very clean, towels are nice, location is close to many restaurants.
