The volcano Barú is the highest mountain in Panama (3477m). It is possible to take a cab to approx. 1700m and hike the rest (13km). It takes around 5 to 6 hours to go up. When the weather is good you can see the Pacific and the Carribean. Even if tour operaters tell something different: you don't need a guide! It's long and steep but not difficult. tip: start at midnight (with a good lamp) so you can watch the sunrise.
Mi Jardin is the place to kick back, enjoy a cup of coffee, and savor the delicious view of the mountains. The coffee in this region is top of the line, gourmet quality. Besides the coffee & the view (reason enough, I know), Mi Jardin has an extensive garden, a koi pond, and small suspension bridge, just begging to be explored. Very nice family cabin, seemed recently renewed, restaurant was great and the breakfast was complete and with local variety. My only suggestion is to consider a night stand in the upper bedroom to place your items and luggage support to make it more comfortable.
