Knowing that the 14th July would be very busy (National holiday in France) and particularly in Cordes-sur-ciel, we made our reservation as soon as we booked our flights. We particularly chose this hotel because it had its own parking and was within easy walking distance of the historic town centre. As we walked up the steps to the entrance we noticed the dilapidated condition of the outside of the building. However we were even more shocked when we were greeted inside to be told, although they had accepted our reservation, there was no room available for the night. They had booked us into another hotel in the countryside but requested that we pay them. This was where our luck started to change. The place in the countryside was a beautiful country estate, with a swimming pool and a restaurant that had a reputation for being the best in the area. It was so good that we booked ourselves in for a second night. The big disadvantage was that it was not within walking distance of the town. However I have been asked for a review of Hostellerie du Parc, not of Hotel La Metairie which we really enjoyed.
I arrived at 15.00; the owner was not there, I had to sit outside in 20degrees for an hour.He didn't have the room I booked and said he couldn't do it for the price, so I got a spartan ,albeit very clean, little room.
I didn't have dinner ,but expected a good breakfast as the hotel has a gourmet restaurant.I was shown to a table facing the wall and given coffee (not bad) and a bread basket with half a croissant, half a brioche and a tiny portion of fruit salad that was not fresh....this cost 10 euros.
In addition to this, the hotel took a deposit when I booked, although it was a free cancellation, with nothing to be paid until I checked out.I didn't recognise the name on my bank statement and thought it was a fraudulent charge and contacted my bank.
I must add; the young staff were charming and polite.
I stayed at this charming hotel with my kids whilst on a car journey to the S of France. The hotel has lovely old charm. A beautiful building that hasn't been touched for a while but that was part of the charm for us.
It was clean and quiet.
Great gardens with a pool.
