"A unique property — a boutique hotel converted from a 1921 junior high school. Large spacious rooms with 15 foot vaulted ceilings. Staff are very friendly and attentive, and non-intrusive. It's central, just a couple of blocks away from Broad street and Main street. There's free self parking on the street outside the hotel, and it's a 12 minute walk or a 5 minute bike ride to Grinnell College (there are free-to-borrow bikes available in the hotel). Western Inn & Suites

8/10 Good

"Older, value-priced property that has signs of updating including new, quiet room hvac’s and door card readers. Comfortable beds. This is my first choice when traveling to Grinnell"

Hotel O

10/10 Excellent

"First of all this is an older building and it is in need of repair. And it offers a discounted price to compensate for this. Don't let the outward appearance discourage you. I stayed 5 nights. The location is just out of town and is a safe location to stay in. The room I had was very clean. The bedding, furniture, towels were in very good condition. They looked new. The AC worked very well, and the refrigerator was good sized and cold. You could set the thermostat where you wanted it. The bathroom was small, but it had a hot shower and a tub. Not a turned down water heater to save money like hotels costing 5 times their price! It had a heat lamp in the ceiling, plus a separate exhaust fan. I never heard any of the other guests while in my room , and there was no partying of any kind going on that I noticed. The people at the desk and the maids were fantastic, friendly, and helpful, and made me feel like they appreciated me using their hotel. They were "kind" people if you care about that. I will be staying in this hotel for all my visits in the future to Oskaloosa, IA. It's about a 3 minute ride to be right in the city where the restaurants and shops are. Oskaloosa is a great mid-sized midwestern town with lots of goods and services. The people who were staying in the hotel were driving mostly new cars. They were dressed nicely and were a friendly bunch. There is also a security person on site. Jeff Anderson"
