Nestled in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 8,661 feet, is the gorgeous town of Lake City, CO. Lake City is home to several species of Wildlife, from moose to deer to mountain goats to chipmunks, and everything in between. They also offer miles of four wheeling and jeep trails through the mountains. The town offers miniature golf, movies, music, and arts, and the most beautiful shopping you've ever seen. Staff were nice enough. Pillows are horrible, everyone complained that they were overstuffed, I barely slept all week and part due to altitude part due to the pillows being so uncomfortable. Staff was great, food was amazing, service was perfect but if I knew the hotel faces a high school and lacrosse field - I probably would not have booked. The TV did not work but the beds are comfortable and rooms are clean.

As the fall colors continue to show their brilliance the high country of Colorado slowly turns to a golden brown waiting for the first snows of winter. Uncompagre Peak 14,309’ is located just west of Lake City CO, it’s neighbor Wetterhorn Peak 14,015’ make and epic fall trip. It’s possible to drive 4wd to both trailheads and cut across country between the peaks for an epic day in the high country. Be aware that Wetterhorn has severe exposure and it’s required that you have some climbing ability to reach the summit.
