Hotel was immaculate! Staff was absolutely amazing and went out of their way to help make our stay amazing. Breakfast was delicious! The SPA was also very nice!
Absolutely beautiful property, well situated in the heart of the city close to restaurants, shopping and transit. Stylish, quiet, serene, and oasis away from home.
Check in and staff were excellent :) appreciated the personal escort and explanation about room and amenities from staff. Room was spotless and beautiful
This hotel was absolutely amazing. We felt like we had a spa stay. The room was so beautiful and the whole Hotel has this calm, special feel to it. The gym was great- and hard to find in hotels in Japan- and the onsen was lovely
Honestly one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in
Location is great too!
Yugen Kyoto Shijo was the nicest hotel. It was so beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I loved the area we were in because everything was within walking distance. This was by far my favorite hotel in Japan.
Beautiful hotel in the perfect location of Kyoto. Close walk to Pontocho Alley & Gion, but also the best spot to walk the quiet streets in the morning. Large rooms with a classic Japanese look. The nicest staff as well. Highly recommend!
The staff were very welcoming and even held our luggage as we arrived early for Check-in. The public bath was great and the gym satisfactory. I would definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Yugen Kyoto Shijo. The hotel is very new and it shows, with everything being in great condition. Very comfortable mattress, nice big bath in the room (so big it takes 30 minutes to fill), and the rooms are fairly large for a Japanese hotel. Breakfast was good quality but the selection is not huge, however we were happy with it. The location is good for walking to many restaurants and bars, and there are bus stops and subway stations within reasonable distance.
Nicest hotel we stayed at in Japan. Rooms are classic/ modern. Staff is awesome. Area is very close to the market and trains to get around. Amenities are also great. Would 100 percent stay here again!
My fiancé and I had the best stay at Yugen. All the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The hotel was very clean and well-maintained. The location is perfect; it’s centrally located, close to Shijo station, and walking distance to so many shops, bars, and restaurants (and Nishiki Market!). I think the best part of the hotel is the spa area. I used the sauna, hot bath, and cold plunge every day, and it really enhanced my stay. It was so relaxing and recharging. Highly recommend staying at this beautiful place
Nice, friendly staff gave recommendations for local restaurants. Room and hotel are pristine and very comfortable. Great sauna / public bath area (separate for men vs women) that’s open to 1am. Only minor detractions are small/basic gym equipment where the dumbbells are a bit light, and it’s about 10-15 walk to closest metros which isn’t too far, but also not particularly close either.
I stayed at Yugen Kyoto Shijo and it was honestly the best hotel of my entire trip! The hotel is new, super clean, and beautifully designed modern but with a lovely traditional Japanese touch. The location is very central and perfect for exploring Kyoto.
The staff were always incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure everything went smoothly during my stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, which is rare in Japan where most hotels have very small rooms. For the price I paid, it was amazing value!
I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Super clean & decent place to take rest in Kyoto.
There's no microwave in the room or public area but you can ask friendly staff to heat your stuff. So don't worry for your delicious late night snack bought from convenience store.
Newly renewed hotels in central Kyoto. Beds, interiors and bathrooms are top notch. windows are accessible and cannot be opened Hotel services is 4 out of 5 , depending who is working . Problem remain the restaurant, which is not run by the hotel. Restaurant staff can be iffy and not costumer wishes are not first: This doesn’t fit to hotel premium concept. For this reason my stay was 4 out of 5. I will come to the hotel again but I will not book breakfast in the restaurant.
The best hotel we started in on our trip to Japan. The atmosphere is contemporary yet local. Service was top of the line, fast, and consistently polite. We were given water while waiting on our Uber to leave. Also, the tv menu made ordering extra supplies to the room easy. Would be a first choice to come back without question.
Beautiful and newly refurbished property. The rooms are big and it’s very welled located with Kawaramachi street approx. 10 min walk. The spa facilities are fantastic and the gym is well equipped. Unfortunately the service is not quite there yet. I had asked the hotel to contact me regarding a tea ceremony and I was informed that they had no way to contact an international phone number. In the end I was not concerned about the ceremony but more about how they would contact me if there was an emergency as I’ve never come across this issue before. I asked if they were equipped to contact me via WhatsApp and the response was ‘no’. Overall, nice place to stay.
