Great hotel, we loved our stay! The room was quite spacious with great decor- felt modern and cozy. The bed and pillows were great. The staff/service were incredible. Very nice, would certainly stay again.
Room was spotless, workers were very courteous and kind as well. Amenities were absolutely amazing. I would absolutely stay here every single me and my family visit Kyoto. Looking forward to coming back to this hotel next year!
Great hotel. No complains at all, wish I stayed longer. They had free wine, beer and snack. Rooms are big, very spacious (compared to others I stayed at in Japan) The breakfast buffet it was ok (not my preferred food for breakfast) but convenient. The little cafe in the lobby has great sandwiches. Everyone is so nice, but I found that everyone in Japan is. Beautiful country!
Very nice hotel, extremely clean with nice services as free coffee area and drinks.
Rooms are spacious and the service is great.
Location might not be the best for some guests, as it’s a bit far from certain attractions.
The hotel is very modern, has a great view of the park behind the hotel, has an amazing happy hour offering of complimentary beer, wine, cheese, and nuts.
The breakfast has a lot of great options, including many Japanese delights but is timed so don’t linger or the staff will make you leave.
Umekoji Potel is a great property for those who want an open environment while staying in Japan. Our room size was comparable to most Western hotels and the balcony overlooking Umekoji Park made time in the hotel a treat. Tge park is a wonderful outdoor space, with many activities and events , used by local residentsvand visitors. The many unique common areas(coffee, evening drinks, music, rooftop deck, etc.) were great amenities to complement our stay. The close proximity to Umekoji Krotonishi station was a plus for midday and off hour train access(as it is the last station before arriving at Kyoto Station, however rush hour inbound trains are stereotypically packed with commuters. We will definitely return on a future visit.
This hotel was amazing. It was clean and modern. The restaurant was great as were the staff. Couple things to be aware of. Lots of kids which isn’t a bad thing but noise travels really easily in the hotel. You can hear everything. The second is the proximity to the train. While it appears close to the Kyoto station it can be a pain as the station closest is a local station and doesn’t come very frequently. All that said I’d still stay here
If you have young kids this is the best hotel in all of Kyoto. Right next to a giant park that has a creek to play in(allowed as an outdoor playground), Kyoto aquarium, Train museum, and jungle gym playgrounds. Room was immaculate, staff extremely polite and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. Will be coming back next time we are in Japan
Loved everything about this hotel. Had daily sento time. The breakfast is amazing. Located next to a large park for walks. The kyoto aquarium is in the park. Close to the train station but not at all near the urban scramble of the station. Would stay here again.
Great service, staff helped coordinate luggage transfer to Tokyo. Room was new and bigger than our hotel in Osaka. Gave free drinks and snacks on the second floor.
This is a very clean and modern and new facility. Very nice. Not super fancy and people even come to breakfast in there provided pajamas. They have free beer and wine every evening and very cool atmosphere. It is within walking distance of about a block to the Starbucks and to the train station.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Plenty of public spaces to enjoy yourself. I particularly enjoyed the music room but I thought it could be opened later into the evening.
Loved the location of this hotel, one stop on local line from Kyoto central station or a 10-15 minute walk. The area is quiet next to a lovely park and there is a family mart, a 2 minute walk away which is handy. The staff were all lovely and friendly, helped us to send our bags in to our next hotel and we have limited Japanese.
Our room was clean and lovely comfortable beds which is what you need after a day’s sightseeing.
Would stay here again.
This place is my new favorite. Easily located just west of Kyoto station super easy to get to just one stop on the JR line 150yen and get to all the attractions around town! They have a brew your own coffee room and drinks and snacks in the evening the rooms are spacious and even a balcony over looking the park, quiet and peaceful. There is a coffee shop, family mart and Starbucks neer by plus local places of refreshment. Easy ten minute walk to Toji temple don’t miss the market day!
Umekoji Potel is undoubtedly one of the best hotels I've stayed in! The hotel was incredibly easy to get to and from Kyoto station (as Umekoji is one stop away) our room was amazing with a fantastic view of the park. The staff were amazing from the moment we stepped through the door and were always keen to help us when needed. The facilities are excellent and it was lovely to have different spaces to relax in other than our room. Incredibly family-friendly as well. Thanks for the lovely time!
We loved our stay. Accomodation was just right for us. Great location, 1 stop from main station with trains and buses stopping nearby (direct connections to many of the main sights). Main stations 15mins wslking distance. Calmly located right next to a park. Building in very goid condition. Spacious and clean room. Reception staff with decent english skills. We loved the activity rooms on each floor. Laundry, public bath snd rooftop are a plus. Some dinner options in the neighbourhood. Great with kids.
Only downside I can think of is the restaurant for dinner service. Any deviations from the menu were either not possible overall (which they were the day before) or not possible to communicate (due to lack of english skills). But staff was generally very friendly.
This is a very nice hotel, created in a modern, contemporary Japanese style. We enjoyed it. Clean, sleek Japanese decor. Clean premises (of course), good service (of course). Lovely room. Short walk (>10 min) from Umekoji train station. Breakfast buffet is exceptional: freshly prepared, broad selection of Japanese cuisine, but includes a modest choice of western dishes. Hotel features "experience spaces" open to all guests, including books/reading; coffee; music. This means no coffee maker in the room. Instead, you must find the "coffee space" on the fourth (?) floor, where you grind your own (curated) beans and brew your own cup. Oh well. Not our style in terms of convenience, especially first thing in the morning, but we will stay there again.
Unassuming when you see the this hotel within a list of hotel but this is one of the best hotels (or technically a potel?) that I have stayed at in the past year. The area near the hotel is full of nature and you have an unblocked view of the sky from your room window. There is a cafe downstairs with tall glass windows if you want to spend your day on your laptop or reading a book while having coffee. There are also common space where you can self serve yourself drip coffee (with specialty coffee beans) or other drinks (alcoholic too). There are common rooms where you can find shelves of books, listen to music or play board games. The addition of these common rooms give a very friendly feel to your stay. This hotel is very unique in that sense and it's an easy recommendation for everybody who is looking for a great hotel to stay in Kyoto. Don't forget to try the hot amazake from the store near the hotel especially when it's chilly outside!
