The Catholic Parish Church of St Andrew, right in the heart of the town, is a listed building and the oldest church in the town of Kirchheim. You can see the green dome on the church tower from miles away. The Parish Church was built in the 17th century and is worth a visit during your trip, especially to see its massive Rococo altar.
When you're on your trip to Kirchheim visit the Bajuwarenhof archaeological open air museum. This museum is a reconstruction of a 6th century medieval farmstead. You can find out how people lived and worked at that time. The complex hosts a frequently changing programme of events for young and old, such as smithing courses, making glass beads and taster evenings on historical textile production. The Bajuwarenhof open air museum is easy to get to in the Heimstetten district of Kirchheim.
Heimstetter See Lake is the perfect destination for a short trip to Kirchheim. This flooded gravel pit covering 11 hectares is now a recreational area offering many leisure activities. On the northern side there is a beer garden with table tennis tables and a little sports ground. There is also a wide area of grass fringed with large trees. Another really nice feature is the little floating island for swimmers which you can easily swim over to. You can get to the lake either on foot or by car. There are plenty of car parks.
If you can't do without physical activity on your trip to Kirchheim you'll be in your element in the High East climbing gym. It is one of the highest indoor facilities in Germany. Both beginners and experienced climbers can demonstrate their skills. If you want a snack while you're there you can have home-made cake and a cup of coffee in the bistro.
At Miniland you will get a warm welcome and see the first model railway on view in Germany, which is laid out over an area of 400 square metres. The lovingly designed layout has a long history.
