Unexpected haven, - just out of town
The remains of over 21,000 German solders killed during the first few months of the Allied invasion are interred here, many of them moved from other ad hoc burial sites across France. The entrance sign reads, in part: "With its melancholy rigour, it is a graveyard for soldiers not all of whom had chosen either the cause or the fight".
On D-Day, John M.Steele, one of the mortar platoon of the 505 PIR of the US 82nd Airborne had his chute snag on the church tower as he descended. Here he hung during the battle, watching helplessly as his colleagues fought below. This scene was famously reenacted in the film "The Longest Day", and a manequin now hangs from the church in Ste Mere Eglise depicting the event (do you see him?)

Chambre impeccable. Restaurant agréable avec une cuisine simple et de qualité. Petit-déjeuner copieux Séjour court et agréable. Sans doute un des meilleurs endroits à cette époque de l’année de basse saison.

L’appartement était spacieux et propre. Sa cuisine est un vrai plus. L’accueil est vraiment sympathique. Proche de toutes commodités à pied. J’ai apprécié d’être rentrée le soir en ayant du chauffage de préparé car dehors il faisait très froid . C’était vraiment super !
