Storstrøm is the best place for fantastic countryside and charming towns and villages.
A holiday in Storstrøm guarantees an exciting and fascinating stay for the whole family. If you’re a history lover, this area is home to a series of manor houses and castles, witnesses to some of the greatest periods of Danish history. The miles of coastline are ideal for outdoor activities all year round, and if you’re taking the kids, there’s plenty of fun to be had with the exotic wildlife along the way.
Storstrøm is actually the name for the county that used to stretch over Lolland, Falster, Møn and South Zealand. When counties were replaced by regions in2007, Storstrøm became part of Region Zealand. The biggest islands in the area, Møn, Falster and Lolland are linked to Zealand via several bridges, of which the Farø bridges are particularly impressive.
A visit to Storstrøm is not complete without a visit to the impressive Møns Klint, Denmark’s highest cliff, about 4 miles long and 420 feet high. The white cliff stands in sharp contrast to its green top and the blue sea surrounding it. There are several paths along the cliff, although some may be closed off if there’s a risk of landslides occurring.
If staying in Storstrøm with the family, there are a number of entertainment options, including BonBon-Land, named after the popular sweets with questionable names. The park features a fantastic array of rides and attractions, and you can try your own hand at making sweets. A visit to Knuthenborg Safaripark also includes water slides in addition to seeing exotic animals up close, of course.
Getting here is easy as there are excellent train services and motorway links. If coming from the west, you can take the ferry from Spodsbjerg on Langeland to Tårs on Lolland, the sailing time is just 45minutes.
During the summer, Storstrøm has lots of places to go for a swim, including one of the most beautiful beaches in the country at Marielyst. During the winter, a fantastic variety of museums and galleries are on offer and are well worth a visit.
