Great choice for Jo’burg

Lovely hotel in a hip part of town. Welcoming staff and spacious rooms with everything you need for a pleasant stay. Great coffee in the lobby too!

Fun place to party if you did that type of thing

Hallmark is more of a party hotel. I was looking forward to having dinner on the roof top over looking the city at sunset, but instead I was met with hookah bar with DJ loud music and a staff looking at me strangely when I asked for food. If partying is your scene, then this is the place for you. It looks like it would be a fun place to party if you did that.

Friendly staff and JMB home from home

Hotel was very nice, staff were really friendly, nice coffee shop/cafe downstairs for breakfast and the Marabi Club (Jazz club) downstairs in the basement was great. Area is fine to get Uber/taxi from but not advised to walk. Only one downside of the room was the shower wasn’t great, but rest of the room was nice. Would recommend.

It was a fairly nice place. The only thing is there were no irons in the hotel room, although Expedia said there would be. Basically had to share an iron with the entire hotel and call or go down and ask and wait for a while each time to get one. Which took time away from my trip. Staff were nice though, but that needs fixed.

Spacious rooms with a nice view

Room is very nice and spacious, we have a wrap around balcony where we have coffee every morning. Bathroom is also spacious and always clean with a nice tub. My issue was the curtains are not thick enough so one can see through the bathroom at night when lights are on. So we had to take a shower in the dark. Cindy at the front desk is a rock star! She helped us every step of the way.

The room was ok. The cup for coffee was stuck to the saucer from prior substance. The bathroom was very clean. Matresses are worn, the room design is great. Great hotel in the middle of it all

If you want a stay in a fantastic hotel that is right in the middle of Johannesburg...a hotel that is not located in the mostly-affluent sections of Johannesburg, containing all of the predictable and thus somewhat boring hotel brands, then this is the place for you. With its decor emphasizing an artistic avant garde expression, the staff is outstanding and always willing to help. Sure, the neighborhood is a bit more spicy than the all-too-safe and predictable hotel neighborhoods in the outlying areas of Johannesburg. But we felt fully supported by the staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and safe. The room was modern and tastefully appointed and the food was very good. We felt it was very well priced.

CORRE QUE É CILADA!

Local escuro, parece uma caverna. De péssima localização, aparência feia e suja. Ar-condicionado não funciona, foi solicitado reparo automático afins é nada movimentado pela administração. Quartos sem janelas e abafados. Corredores de péssima iluminação, ambiente escuro e de difícil visualização das portas e elevadores. Inclusive tinha previsão de retorno e foi cancelado na primeira estadia. Fotos e etc.. no perfil do hotel são fakes, maquiadas!

The room and hotel was generally nice. I usually book Hallmark when I visit Joburg. This time though, we went to the bar to have drinks and requested drinks and the bartender told us she wasn’t making any drinks because it’s cold and she didn’t want to touch the ice. It was a woman with locs, she wore glasses, and she was a bit bright skinned. She argued with me and told me it was beer and premade drinks only, but then I saw others with bottles, shots, and mixed drinks. She wouldn’t have said that to older white folks walking in there for sure, but since I’m a Black American I guess she didn’t want to serve me. She offered no free drink or anything the next day either, due to her rude service. The front desk staff were nice however. We also liked our room (it had a super nice view). Experience was generally cool, except for that 1 hiccup.

I explicitly booked this hotel because it was in the Cape Town CBD and, most importantly, the listing showed it had a swimming pool. It did not. The listing changed to remove all references to a pool within minutes of my complaint. I cancelled my booking on the spot on the promised of a full refund. Two weeks later, after many emails, providing all the information they asked for and having countered every excuse they could come up with, I have not received my refund and they are now ghosting me, leaving me with no option but to go through my credit card provider to get my money back. They are lovely to your face but complete fraudsters once you're no longer present. Absolutely shocking. Avoid.

Not impressed with the security.

We had someone enter our room in the middle of the night, even though I had bolted the door from the inside. This is unacceptable and should not have happened. Fortunately, the person who entered left when we shouted at them. There is also no temperature control in the room, and it was very hot for the first half of the night. The room faces the street, which is very noisy, especially on a weekend night.
