Independent Eastern Iceland hotels

"It's an interesting hotel, utilising former French hospital buildings and containing an interesting musuem about the French sailors, mainly from Brittany who spent half the year in tough conditions fishing along the Icelandic coast. The receptionist was friendly, informative and welcoming. Our room was over the road (free parking outside) with a view over the fjord. The room was spacious and modern with good black out curtains and a fab view. We booked into the French restaurant withon the hotel and both enjoyed our meals. Breakfast was also enjoyable with a good range ot items which were stocked up regularly. Neither the hotel or the restaurant are cheap - nothing in Iceland is cheap! However it was a pleasant quiet night. NB Nothing to do with the hotel but the fish industry locally is still very much alive and so we had a strong whiff of fish when outside. Doesn’t take away from the great views and setting."

"We had a great stay at this hotel after a long drive from Vík. The property is beautiful and has about 25 rooms. Not a bad view from any room with the large windows that let in plenty of natural light, with blackout shades to block out the summer sun. The woman at the front desk was incredibly friendly and went out of her way to accommodate a request they don’t usually allow, which I deeply appreciated. I didn’t get a chance to use the hot tubs, but they seemed popular with other guests. The attached restaurant serves excellent food, it’s expensive, but worth it for a nice dinner. Just make sure to book a reservation in advance. Breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of options and a great way to start the day. If you need groceries, there’s a store about five minutes away by car, but note that it closes very early. My only complaint is that there wasn’t an in-room coffee maker or cups, which felt like a miss for such a nice hotel. A few tips for future travelers: • The shower has no door, so adjust the showerhead before turning it on, or you’ll end up with water all over the bathroom floor. • There is no TV in the room, which I personally enjoyed because it made for a quiet and peaceful stay. Bring a book if you like evening entertainment. Overall, this is a comfortable and welcoming hotel, perfect for resting after long days of driving and exploring. I would definitely stay here again!"

"Great place, perfect location for our plans. The breakfast was great and the hotel restaurant was great as well. No other food choices nearby. We planned to hike Studlagil canyon early, and this hotel allowed us to do that. We ate at the hotel at 7:30, were at the Canyon by 8AM and we had the hike in and about 30 minutes while we were the only ones there except one other couple who left as we arrived. On the hike out we passed hundreds of people on their way in. We had enough time left in the day to visit the Puffin colony in Borgurfjorder eysrti, visit Seydisurfjorder, and drive to Fáskrúðsfjörður"
