Stayed in the Female only 8 person dorm and it was great! The property is clean, there are lots of communal spaces to meet people, and it is located in a lovely area near the water/some good restaurants and bars. The owner was friendly too.

Perfectly located amongst the quaint homes of Battery park and Salamanca place. Lovely views of Mt Wellington from the comfortable rear porch. Sharing bathroom was no problem as there were plenty.

Owners were very friendly and kind, and the place was always clean and well maintained. Each bed has a curtain, which gives you a nice sense of privacy. It also gets quiet at night, so I could sleep comfortably and feel safe. Highly recommended!

My stay at Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse was exceptional. The staff were warm, friendly, and always willing to assist, creating a genuinely welcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived. The environment was clean, well-organized, and offered a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow travelers from around the world. It’s an excellent place to make international connections, exchange ideas, and enjoy a strong sense of community. Numerous bathrooms and showers available so there’s usually never a wait. The location is another highlight — conveniently walkable to many of Hobart’s main attractions and easily accessible via the SkyBus from the airport. The property is also family-friendly and thoughtfully designed to make guests feel comfortable and at home. Stayed in a private double room, and couldn’t complain about a thing! Loved sitting outside on the balcony enjoy the sunshine/moonlight and chatting with other guests. Place was spotless, quiet, homey and in a perfect location (with private car parking!)

We loved our stay. There’s a great atmosphere at Montacute, so definitely stay if you want somewhere relaxing and quiet, but pleasantly buzzy in the kitchen during the evenings, with great conversation. Rooms are lovely, great views from upstairs, super value. We loved it, would return if we were ever in Hobart again.

The room was good. We had a bunkroom, with shared bathrooms, which were very clean. They had a big common kitchen, but we didn't use it.

Brilliant bunkhouse. We are a pair of oldies…71 and 66. Felt very comfortable and at home. Other guests were all very quiet and considerate. Great stay.

What a Fantastic Hostel!

Ant was the perfect host and so welcoming upon my somewhat late arrival. Having run a hostel myself, I can appreciate the hard work that he has put in to make this such a unique hostel. Spotless with a variety of rental options, I chose a 4 bunk female only room and was delighted with the women who passed through while I was there who reflected the warmth and ambiance of this unique hostel. Extremely high standards of cleanliness throughout and those extra touches that make a place special.

Friendly vintage style bunkhouse, so convenient to walk to Salamanca, wharves or CBD. Clean comfortable dorms with own light and fan. Cleanliness lost a star because the shared kitchen often had rubbish bin full but most guests washed up after themselves. Even did recycling and composting. Plenty of Shared bathrooms, they just need a shower caddy over the hose to place soap & shampoo bottle. Great balcony with views to kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Definitely recommend staying here and you can meet plenty of travellers of all ages. Thanks Montacute manager!

I stayed here twice in different private rooms. The first one was very noisy, being on the stairwell. The 2nd was a lovely, clean, comfortable and quiet room (I emailed to ask for a quieter room). There are not enough toilets for the number of people staying there-only 4. The bathrooms all somehow leak and there is water all over the floors. One of the upstairs showers was very mouldy and skungey and the fan was filthy. All this would not matter for a backpackers (who pay less), but for those who pay $135-155 a night for a private room, a clean, available bathroom would be nice. The manager is creepy.
