We, with a small child of 1,5 year, had a really nice stay. The Lodge is like a oasis in Hermanus. The people are very friendly and there was no wish left unfulfilled. The food has a high quality and you have always the opportunity to take any kind of drinks by yourself with a kind of selfservice system. We can highly recommend the stay!
Our stay was short, just overnight but the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and very clean. Information booklet was helpful and interesting. We would stay again next time we in Hermanus.
Absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we only spent one night whilst visiting friends in Hermanus. I could have stayed a month. Very friendly and welcoming. Beautifully decorated and spacious rooms. Lovely lounge area which was cosy and warm for a nightcap after a meal out. Perfect spot in a secure space for relaxing and exploring the area. Will definitely return. Thanks to all the staff for the warm welcome.
Whale Rock Lodge is a lovely place. Very much a home away from home. Staff welcoming and efficient.
We had a room in The Villa; a separate building to main house with it's own entrance and car park but only 30 steps to main building.
The room and bathroom were large with fridge & tea/coffee making facilities. Good sized balcony with comfortable seating.
The 2 pools - larger at main house and one at villa had plenty of sunbeams and other seating.
Pleasant sitting rooms in both buildings.
Excellent freshly cooked breakfast or buffet style continental.
Cliff walk into town takes approx 40 minutes but too far out of town to walk for dinner. No Ubers and only a limited number of taxis in Hermanus.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Couple stay
The lodge was not luxurious. Our room was large and we had a balcony but some of soft furnishings were a bit tired. The furniture in the breakfast room was basic but breakfast was ok. Staff were lovejy.
The grounds were very nice and the pool was inviting but too cold to swim in unfortunately.
The location was near the New Harbour area and at the start of the spectacular cliff walk. But it was very close to the township . Security seemed good though so felt safe.
The room was very large and there were plenty of nice areas to sit and play boardgames or just read a book. There was an honesty bar, which seems quite common in RSA. The breakfast was ok, but not great. No fresh juice and the specialty coffee (which came at an additional cost) was not very good. The pool didn't look clean, even though there was a guy there every morning trying to clean it plus a machine. Not sure if it was unclean or not, but the water wasn't clear, so I didn't use the pool. The guest house is a good 30 mins walk from the centre of the town but you get there using a magnificent cliff walk which is also nice for running.
We had a wonderful stay here. We'd definitely go back. Very highly recommended. They went above and beyond for a request to that we had, in which we were so grateful. Super friendly staff, too.
So we like the hotel. Hermanus village is okay. However the 2 first images are misleading. These are not from the hotel but from a bar 10 minutes walk away.
We booked it bc we thought it was on the premises (we were with baby)

WITHIN A STONE’S THROW OF A HUGE TOWNSHIP
Sadly there were two very big problems with Whale Rock.
1. It was about 200yds from a huge and filthy township. The approach was through this which was very frightening. We felt it dangerous to go out unless by car.
2. It is advertised as per person, so be careful when booking. We didn’t realise and were surprised when we were charged almost £200 a night, which is definitely way over the top for this place, which is not spectacular and so close to a township.

The danger with 'luxury' in the name is the immediate setting of high expectations and unfortunately, the place fell short for me.
It's an attractive property to pull up to, despite driving alongside the township to get to it, but in the lobby staff kept us waiting to check us in and I noticed cliched and dated seaside decor like fish and shells which didn't align with the classy photography I had previously seen.
We were told we were in the villa, which was a separate car park - it didn't need to be but it made it seem an inconvenience to drive around.
The 2-storey room itself had some lovely design decisions in the furniture and looked much sharper and impressive than the lobby, but laminated signs dotted around cheapened it. The messaging around water protection and eco measures but could have been made more slick. it was also a contradiction to save water when we had to run and waste the shower before we had any warm water, our toilet also smelled - as we were only there two nights and were out quite a lot we coped.
Breakfast was a disappointment. Plastic chairs, limited choices and paying extra for a decent coffee didn't feel luxury. it was never busy despite this, the staff seemed distracted gossiping as we had to chase up our order on both days due to long waits.
We stayed in 4 places on our break and mainly due to the lack of customer-focussed service this was my least fave.
Location, it is 30min walk from the sea bar photo, 10min walk from new harbour.

The hotel is quite isolated and next to what appears to be a township. Certainly we didn’t feel safe
