The tiny fishing village of Henningsvær spreads across several islands on Austvågøya’s southern coast. It was accessible to the rest of the Lofoten archipelago only by boat until the early 1980s, sparing the community from modern development through the 20th century. Today see its stunning collection of historic architecture. Stroll along the waterfront promenades lining the two main islands and photograph the huddled seaside cottages facing a lacework of ship’s masts and rigging.
Appreciate Henningsvær’s beautifully preserved architecture from one of the cafés along the narrow channel between the two main islands. Sample fresh, locally produced food, including cod fillets and roe. Warm up with a hot coffee and scan the Vestfjord horizon dotted with small islands and a cluster of mountain peaks to the north.
