  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

We had two bedrooms with 3 beds and the room was huge and comfortable. Plenty parking spots on the property. Walking distance to the store and restaurants. The only things we did not like were toiletries. Everything in the bathroom was commercial grade that reninds you of the public restroom.

Newly renovated and really lovely. Our hosts were wonderful. The kitchenette was well stocked with dishes and pots. Beds were very firm. The area was quiet and there is a grocery store across the street.

Motel stay

No heating had been put on for our evening arrival. The Motel was freezing. The heat pump should have been put on. No electric blankets on the beds and no mats on the cold flooring. The beds were very comfortable. Internet was fine. Great to have Supermarkets nearby. The bathroom heater not functioning, overhead bed light not working. Kitchen was adequate and roomy lounge.

Comfortable

It was comfortable, we slept ok, clean tidy room with kitchen. Didn't do any cooking but it appeared to be a well appointed kitchenette. Room was quite dark, even during the day, maybe due to its position, it was ground floor in C block, close to supermarkets, which was handy....take ear plugs was a bit noisy in the night...need blinds/curtains that fully cover windows and bathroom could do with soap at the vanity.
