Calm oasis near Sigiriya

The other corner is a nice place to stay when going to Sigiriya. It feels a bit like a calm oasis. The personnel was really helpful and booked a driver to Sigiriya and Kandy the day after. The latter seemed to be by some deal with a spice garden where the hotels driver were really insistent on us stopping by. It was a nice experience, but got us a bit late for our train. The dinner was nice and the breakfast ok. The rooms were in these cool hut-houses and the insides were fresh.

This is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay. The rooms are excellent, the food wonderful, the staff incredibly accommodating and the natural habitat in which the Other Corner is situated forms perfect backdrop gor wildlife including a birds. The resident wildlife and naturalist Dhilip is a fount of knowledge and made the stay even better. The organic garden and lake are also a bonus. The Other Corner makes an excelllent base for touring the national parks, ancient cities and Sigiriya.

Jungle dream that’s ever so clean!

Really loved our stay at this place. It’s nestled back from a main road so it’s super quiet and you are surrounded by jungle but it still feels very clean and luxurious. You are very close to nature and I even witnessed a shikra pluck a lizard from a tree 10m away while standing in my high up verandah. The resident naturalist brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the place which I was very sad to leave after 3 days.

Pretty hotel in the countryside. Excellent service

We were in Sri Lanka for three weeks and without a doubt The Other Corner was by far the best place we stayed. It is a beautiful site with lovely rooms, full of character. The Manager is very caring, both for his guests and his staff and the happy, pleasant atmosphere created made us wish we had stayed here longer. The restaurant is excellent with meals beautifully presented and served. The chefs and waiters are keen to show you the best of Sri Lankan cuisine but are also very receptive to likes and dislikes. The on-site organic garden, lovingly tendered by the gardener, provides much of the produce for the kitchen. The Other Corner sits in a pretty location beside a lake which is great for a wander and for watching wildlife. We saw over 50 species of birds here and the site itself is cared for to be attractive to butterflies and birds. The resident naturalist was superb. He is interesting, amusing and knowledgable, so whether you are a keen birder or just interested in what's around you, he is happy to show you Sri Lanka's wildlife.
