Southwestern University, Texas’s oldest higher-learning institution, is situated on a 700-acre (280-hectare) campus filled with historic buildings and a manicured green, making it the perfect place for a walk or a picnic. Just 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) south of downtown is Inner Space Cavern, a massive karst cave that gives visitors a look into the enchanting underworld of Georgetown. It was first discovered in 1963 during the construction of Interstate 35. Today, its remarkable formations can be explored by guided tours or spelunking expeditions.
