The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly—always on point with ordering a taxi. Breakfast buffet was extraordinary, with great attention to detail. Grounds were gorgeous, and the church bells next door were like a heavenly concert.

The Hotel is very close to one of Germany's biggest shopping malls incl. a food court, so that makes it an ideal place to stay as well. The service at Mercure was excellent and our stay was great as well.

Well presented hotel throughout. A 15 minute walk from Essen Central Station or 7 to 8 minute walk from Philharmonie tube/tram stop. Almost next door to Museum Folkwang. Located on a busy road but little or no traffic noise inside the hotel. Very large room with comfortable bed and very powerful shower. Breakfast options were plentiful and the breakfast room was never too busy. Friendly staff. All in all a great hotel and would definitely stay again if I was in this area.

Nice stay in Essen

I stayed overnight in Essen to see an opera. The hotel was very nice and located close to the opera house. The staff were very helpful in sharing their local knowlegde.

We stayed here during our whirlwind tour of Europe. Very nice and clean, and probably the best hotel we stayed at during our trip. Would definitely stay here again. Friendly staff, great food, comfortable and spacious room. No complaints at all.

Close to Museum Folkswang

The rooms in The Mercure Hotel are large and comfortable with a good bathroom, everything is very clean. If you stay at the Mercure Hotel, you Can easily walk to the town centre and the Main station, if you walk along the Huyssen Aller (runs parallel to Bismarckstraße). If you don’t want to walk very far for a metal, just cross the Folkswang Bridge (pedestrian) and turn right. There you Will find small local restaurants. Ofcourse you are very near to the Folkswang Museum, and that is a must!! Entrance is free of charge, you only pay for the special exhibition. Go to the UNESCO World Heritage, Zollverein, which is a former coal mine and factory. Just jump a tram at the main station.

Very pleasant peaceful stay. Was given a room with balcony at my request. Cleaning staff did not leave a voucher (for opting not to get your room cleaned, you get a voucher for a free soft drink in the bar), but bar man accommodated me no problem. All staff very friendly!

This hotel provides excellent service for the price. The staff is very friendly both at the front desk and during breakfast. The breakfast is good, offering both continental and hearty English options. There's a kettle and coffee/tea in the room, along with some snacks at the front desk. The rooms are spacious, with attention to those with limited mobility. The cleanliness is very good, with nice linens and amenities. The hotel is conveniently located near the train station. There's a stop near the philharmonic, but you can actually walk there as well. The parting gift was highly appreciated!
