A Wonderful Stay at Kamares Villas, Mani
We spent three delightful nights at Kamares Villas, just outside Gythio. Designed by an architectural firm in Athens, the villas are inspired by the historic tower houses of the Mani region. The thoughtful layout features individual apartments on two levels, each with its own forecourt and private verandah. All the rooms are spacious and luxuriously appointed, with crisp bedding, immaculate cleanliness, and soft, fresh towels replenished daily.
The villas are run with great care and professionalism by the owners, whose warm oversight sets the tone for a relaxing stay. Each morning, we were treated to superb breakfasts prepared by the loveliest cook (I regret not catching her name). Every dish and cake was crafted with evident care and pride — and we shared many laughs as I tried to guess the ingredients of her delicious Greek pies and local delicacies. Our culinary conversations, mostly conducted through gestures, facial expressions, and Google Translate, brought us real joy. One highlight was learning about a local herb amusingly called the “two-faced fool,” said to mimic other flavours — I was convinced I tasted dill!
Gythio itself is a lively town with plenty of cafes and restaurants, and Kamares Villas is ideally located for exploring the dramatic landscapes and traditional villages of the Deep Mani peninsula.
We left feeling rested, well-fed, and warmly looked after — highly recommended.
