Drenthe is one of the three northern provinces of the Netherlands and a great destination full of activities for the whole family.

Whether you like cycling or walking, want to take the kids to a theme park or are looking for a bit of culture, this province has something for everyone. Endless walks across expansive moors or in thick woods, bicycle tours along wetlands, interesting museums or a roller coaster ride with the kids, Drenthe is an exciting destination.

A visit to Assen, the capital of the province, is also a must. The Drents Museum has interesting changing exhibitions that often attract thousands of visitors. If you are an active holidaymaker, you can take advantage of the more than 100 walking trails and bicycle routes that Drenthe has to offer. There are many long and short routes and dogs are allowed in many areas. Go on a bicycle tour that takes you along the different dolmens or enjoy a walk through the beautiful Dwingelderveld National Park. On a rainy day, take the kids to Plopsa Indoor Coevorden and enjoy the many attractions. On Sunday surprise the kids with a visit to Ronostrand where they can swim in the gradually receding water.

Drenthe is easy to reach by car, bus and train. You can choose from a variety of accommodations ranging from luxurious hotels to quaint bed and breakfasts. Most of the accommodations have free parking and some even rent bicycles.

And if you need more things to do, there’s always Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen, probably one of the best zoos in the Netherlands. Go to Expedia's website and book an affordable holiday in Drenthe today.
