Hotel Caribe by Faranda Grand, a member of Radisson Individuals
6/10 Okay
"The hotel is ok just a little dated…it’s celebrated 80 years and it’s showing its age in some areas…a good example would be the furnishings in the rooms…practical but old
We found the some of staff not overly helpful…a tip is added to your check so they certainly do go out of their way to do anything extra…an example was we sat along the main pool for a drink and a server came to the loungers next to us brought something, looked directly at us and never came back..we waited for about 15 minutes then left
Not all of the staff don’t go out of their way…the bartender at the adult pool made us some of the tastiest mojitos ever and did it with a huge smile…we tipped accordingly on top of the check…the room staff did a great job and our room was always neat and tidy…the staff at the front desk were great and helped wherever they could
We received a free dinner on our first day from the hotel and enjoyed a tasty dinner at the buffet…if I have a complaint about the buffet, there was no egg station for a couple fried eggs if that’s what you wanted for breakfast but there were lots of things to have for breakfast
One thing I would suggest to the hotel would be to provide face cloths in the rooms…there are none provided…all in all we had a nice stay…good location close to many things to do and great restaurants"

Sofitel Barú Cartagena

"The hotel is beautiful and perfect for those who are looking to relax since there is nothing to do around it. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet is great with lots of options to choose from. Most of the staff are wonderful and want to help you aside from some of the front desk staff. Arranging transportation with them was a nightmare. Booked transportation from airport to pier and then catamaran to the resort, but no one was at the airport like promised. Had to contact the hotel and paid someone who spoke Spanish to see where our driver was. Waited at least 20 minutes in the heat not knowing if someone is showing up. Then when we got to the pier, there was a speed boat instead of catamaran. That was not what we had agreed on. However, Fareed the representative from the hotel in charge of the speedboat was great. Made sure we would get there with as little as possible motion. On the last day took us 5 calls to see why no one is coming to pick us up to take us to the pier. Our catamaran was leaving at 12:00 and at 12:02 after calling 5 times we were still in the room waiting. That also added to our frustration with communication with the front desk people. Nothing arranged with them was done smoothly. Aside from that it’s a nice resort. Stoney beach!"

Hotel Fenix Beach Cartagena
4/10 Poor
"I wish I was being exaggerated when I say, this hotel almost ruined the entire Cartagena trip for us. Before I get into it I will add some considerations because I do not want to be unfair in this review.
When booking this hotel, it is NOT very clear that this is on a completely separate island from the city of Cartagena, it is isolated and you have to take a boat back and fourth everytime you need to go. So for other travelers that aren't familiar with the term "on the beach" for many of these international places, it doesn't mean a hotel by the beach, it means a hotel on an island. So i wish it was worded better, but I will take accountability for that.
Now, several factors going into this I want to start with, we left the property 3 days before checkout because we couldn't bear staying there anymore. I don't have unlimited characters so I will short form it: The food was pricier than a lot of mainland spots and didn't taste good, no hotwater to shower first day, bugs everywhere in room crawling in bed to us, boat schedule inconveinent and not timely (can get costly as well out of free hours), the beach area dirty and pillows laid on / urinated on by wild dogs, staff (not all but a handful) not very courteous and they do not seem to care it is just a job to them.
We had to book another hotel and just check out early even though we paid for 3 additional days we didn't use. This hotel single-handedly ruined Cartagena first time experience for us. Not worth pricing."
