Best Western El Sitio Hotel
4/10 Poor
"The pool was the only reasonable thing about this place, and the fact that it’s close to the airport. The beds are like rocks and the pillows are the same. The bathroom was very grungy, mould in tiles and really not that clean. The AC unit barely cooled the room and there is no mini fridge. Doors and windows are poorly sealed so you can hear everything outside your room, which was especially annoying because we had a very early flight and wanted to get to sleep at a reasonable time. We could hear literally every person walking and talking outside our room. This place is in disparate need of renovations 😐!!"

Hotel Boyeros
4/10 Poor
"The pool is a saving grace, but this property is in disrepair. The blind fell off the window when we went to close it, the toilet bowl was leaking across the floor, and the chairs at the pool were broken. The street noise and smells made it hard to sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful. "

Buena Vista del Rincon Eco Adventure Park, Hotel & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"This place was solid. Food, staff and activities are all perfect for the family.
Please note: the food is expensive. The least expensive options are down at the hot springs. "

La Mansion Inn Arenal
10/10 Excellent
"Our stay was wonderful so much that we would go and stay again "

Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin
6/10 Okay
"This would be a great stop for a luxury stay over a few days but wasn't worth the cost or distance for a single night stay. The sites of interest are spread out over quite a distance and it's not practical to fit in a visit to more than one of them between check-in and Costa Rica's early sundown. The rooms themselves are nice but not special, the cost/value proposition is really about what sites/activities are included and how easy they make it to book tours on the Hacienda grounds. The food was great but a meal of typical "casados" (the most economical option) ran our family of four $100 CAD. The grounds are beautiful and I would recommend the hacienda to those looking for an all-inclusive, but not a short stay."

Casitas Tenorio B&B
10/10 Excellent
"The casitas are nestled right in the rainforest, completely immersing you in the sights and sounds of nature. Within minutes of arriving, Jeff pointed out a sloth in a nearby tree and howler monkeys overhead—such an unforgettable introduction to the area. The sounds of the forest are incredibly peaceful (though the howler monkeys do provide a memorable early morning wake-up call!).
One of the most touching moments of our stay was how kind Jeff was to our son. He had been playing with a soccer ball he found during some downtime, and when we were leaving, Jeff surprised him with a brand-new ball and pump so he could continue playing throughout our trip. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot to us.
We also really enjoyed the farm tour and the on-site trails, which gave us even more opportunity to experience the beauty of the surroundings. Breakfast each morning was absolutely amazing—fresh, delicious, and made even better with Jeff’s homemade bread and jam.
The location is also very convenient for visiting Rio Celeste, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
We can’t recommend this place highly enough. Jeff and Nana are truly wonderful hosts, and we would love to return someday!"

Las Espuelas Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"We had a comfy night's stay at Las Espuelas! Good beds, solid shower, tasty breakfast, easy parking, and the folks working were incredibly friendly and helpful. "

Blue River Resort & Hot Springs
10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful resort, friendly staff, amazing activities- we even saw a sloth on the property! We had a wonderful time!"

Borinquen Thermal Resort
10/10 Excellent
"The pool at Borinquen is surrounded by trees and is set kind of in a valley and in the afternoons between 3-5 you could start to see the branches moving on the trees and all of a sudden, you would start to see monkeys swinging from branch to branch. Mama monkeys carrying their baby monkeys, monkeys "fighting", eating, just going about their day. It was absolutely amazing. That was when the spider monkeys came out. If the howler monkeys were there you would hear them coming up the valley around that time and then start seeing them, but they weren't as obvious visually. Either way it was an experience and was so magical. Our teenage kids said it was their best vacation ever. We loved it at Borinquen. Their zipline tour was also very fun! All around a great stay! Worth every penny. FYI - very remote and limited on food so just a few days/nights is a perfect amount of time spent there. "
