"The good - I disagree with many of the reviews I read. I thought the staff was amazing. We stayed 2 nights, saw many different workers, all were very friendly and helpful. Condition of some things aside, I believe our room and common areas were as clean as they could be. The bed was clean and comfy, our fridge etc worked. The staff seems to be doing the best they can with what they are dealt. I didn’t see any of what reviews are calling homeless people or anything unsafe. It’s not a secret that doors locked at midnight. There was staff at the desk ready to let us in, non issue. Breakfast was good, the basics, cereal, bagels etc. I liked that they had donut holes and mini muffins The bad - The hotel could definitely use some repairs. It’s not in great shape. There was a hole in our shower ceiling from a prior leak or something, our vanity was held up by like 2x2 sticks and the caulk job prob wasn’t professional. It seemed like they have no budget for repairs and someone is doing what they can. It wouldn’t stop me from staying there again, but just fyi. I waited too long to book for van andel, this was avail and not $600. I paid more than an average night and I’m not upset about it. It’s 6 min away. It did what I needed, a place to sleep, shower, free parking and free breakfast. There’s also a gas station next door, I always need drinks etc. Win IMO If you’re looking for fancy or perfect definitely stay somewhere else. "

"Took my mom to the lantern festival atJohn Ball zoo for her 82nd birthday and stayed at that hotel. The surrounding area was definitely unkept, and it reeked of cigarette smoke outside and inside. The room was clean, but my shower was dirty. The front desk lady was overwhelmed with people trying to check in, but very friendly and tried to be accommodating. I reserved two rooms and instead of putting us in an adjoining room, hotels.com listed the second room under someone else’s name and we were unable to get adjoining rooms. So my mom was on the third floor and I was up on the fourth floor. "
