I'd stay there again

Wish I knew there was a microwave downstairs when I got there. I didn't warm up my dinner. Breakfast was awesome. It was quiet and comfortable, I'd stay there again.

Give this a try--you can always stay at a chain

This was on my way during a long 9 day road trip and it was easily the best one!! I like to stay at local hotels IF the reviews are good. This is a neat place! It is old, rustic and just cool. If you need a Marriot this is not your place--you'll need to drive another 100 miles. Read the property description. The hotel has 3 floors. You use a key to get into your room. The stairs squeak as you go up and down but it is quiet. It's just like being in an "old, rustic, western" hotel. The rooms are not fancy. They are like an old western hotel--there wasn't much in them, not even a bathroom so this is a bonus having your own bathroom! Bed was comfy. Room was clean and everything worked. I chose this place because of reviews and the onsite bar and grill. I was unable to experience the bar and grill because of COVID-19. They were unable to provide a continental breakfast but the owner gave me the option to pick off a menu and they would make it for me. Who would do that?!!! That is customer service!!! The only drawback is the train that came thru during the night. It's not the hotels fault but I did want to put that out there. But not problem getting right back to sleep. If I am in the area or this is on my way, I would definitely stay again.

Welcome to the old west!

Beautiful, classic, old west hotel, incredible built in wood work. I expected to see Miss Kitty come down the stairs at any moment. Lovely place and wonderful people!

Great trip back in time.

This is a wonderful historic hotel filled with antiques, friendly staff and history. The hotel/restaurant and bar are a true throwback to the 1800’s and a great place to stay. We throughly enjoyed our stay there.

Excellent historic property with an excellent and friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious and the staf was so gracious. Definitely recommend this to anyone.

The hotel and staff were excellent. The problem was the train that came by every hour and blew its horn. EVERY HOUR!!!!

Interesting

Nice overall. Like described on their website, it’s not a chain hotel. If you like interesting, historic and off the beaten path, the Eklund is for you. Room lighting could be better. Bed quality could improve but was fine overall.

A Remnant of the Old West

This hotel is amazing. It dates back to the 1800s and the public areas are beautifully decorated to evoke that period. The host was very accommodating to check us in after 11:30 as we had a long journey with many traffic issues. There is even an elevator to all three floors! The one thing we were disappointed with was our room. Its decor and condition did not match the rest of what we saw. The furnishings were nothing special, with double beds and seemingly faded chenille bedspreads. There were no antiques or even reproductions. The ceiling had been repaired and not even painted to match the rest. It was like a room in an old hotel that time forgot. The beds were sleepable, though very soft and felt slightly undersized. There were no plugins near the bedside table. It is possible that we received a room not often used up on the third floor due to our late arrival and that others were nicer. After the beautiful condition of the rest of the hotel, we were left feeling a little letdown. It was not terrible, just not what we were expecting. The breakfast was good with lots of variety. They have pre-cooked it and you take what you want to heat up in a microwave, but they have quiche, and homemade scones and breads and jellies, fruit, and more.

Very nice historical building kept in its charm by the owner. The only problem was that we were given a room without curtains. Before leaving we mentioned this point to the owner who said she knew it, she's going to replace it. Then why not give us another room or something to put over the window to hide night lights and sun light? not a word of excuse either. In spite of this, we do recommend this hotel.

This is a fabulous place to stay! A welcome change from the usual travel motel and not more expensive. We had a lovely dinner in the saloon downstairs and the included breakfast was amazing. We will make this a destination on future trips.
