Find out more about Chatuchak

About Chatuchak

The Chatuchak neighbourhood is a northern suburb of Bangkok that caters for many thousands of tourists each week, especially on the weekend. The district is most famous for its large weekend market, but there are several other landmarks that are certainly worth exploring. The neighbourhood is easy to reach, despite the heavy traffic congestion. This is thanks to both the MRT and BTS transportation systems.

Don’t Miss

Chatuchak is frequently visited by locals, expats and tourists, as the area boasts a large number of interesting landmarks and attractions.

There are several parks in Chatuchak that shouldn’t be missed. The parks are located within the Chatuchak park complex, and include Queen Sirikit, Chatuchak and Wachirabencharat parks. These are great spots for an afternoon stroll, family outing or simply just to rest and relax after a day of shopping.

The market at Chatuchak is a tremendous weekend experience for tourists. It is the largest of its kind in the world, and offers an enormous range of merchandise and produce. Plants, pets, clothing, furniture, jewellery and more are all within the busy aisles of this outdoor market.

Some interesting museums and galleries are located in and around Chatuchak. One of the most impressive is the Thai Art Museum, which is on Vibhavadi Road, in the Benchachida Building. This stunning museum houses an exciting range of modern and historical art from across Thailand.

Restaurants and Bars

Most visitors come to the Chatuchak district to experience its massive market, especially for its food. There are dozens of eating spots within the marketplace, offering a range of exciting Thai food, from som tam dishes to simple ba mee noodles. There are also several nightspots located around Chatuchak Park, including the famous Cha-bar Pub and GZ. These venues have enjoyed success thanks to their hip young clientele. Snooker bars are also in abundance at Chatuchak.

Shopping

There are many different shopping facilities located within Chatuchak. Of course, the Chatuchak Weekend Market is the main shopping attraction in the district. However, the Ratchyothin Night Market, Or Tor Kor Market, and JJ Plaza are also worth checking out. Several department stores are also situated inside this neighbourhood, such as Central Ladprao and Union Mall.
