I made our reservation months in advance on Expedia for our trip to the Boston Marathon. I confirmed our reservation twice the week before, including less than 24 hrs before our arrival. I sent a message to the hotel that we would be arriving late, and received confirmation asking if I would like to upgrade my room. Despite all of this, when we arrived at Sonesta Braintree, we were informed that the hotel was overbooked and our reservation would not be honored. When I asked the front desk attendant what support she could give, she mentioned that my money would be immediately refunded and then disappeared behind a locked door. No other assistance was offered. I called Expedia for help, and they mentioned that they were unable to contact anyone at the hotel. Then four police cars pulled up in the parking lot, officers running into the building. I figured maybe it was a good thing we weren't staying at Sonesta. Sometime after midnight, we eventually found availability at another hotel a few miles away. It took four phone calls to Expedia to get my full refund from Sonesta (I was charged for the full stay--five nights).
