âïžâïžâïž 3/5 â You get what you pay for: fine for one night near the train station
My expectations for an Ibis Budget were low â and it pretty much delivers what youâd expect for the price. Itâs okay for a short stay or a train-travel layover, but not somewhere Iâd choose for a longer trip a Bordeaux
The hotel is clean and well kept, and the staff were friendly and efficient, which I appreciated. The room, however, is extremely small â itâs even tricky to roll a carry-on suitcase around the bed. For North American travelers, it may feel uncomfortably compact.
The bathroom setup is quite basic: the shower feels like a portable cabin, the toilet closet is tiny, and the sink is oddly placed in the middle of the room. That said, the bed was comfortable, though the sheets looked overused more towards yellow than white
The area around the hotel feels a bit rough. Itâs very noisy, with taxis, bikes, and travelers coming and going constantly. The surrounding streets are quite dark at night â I canât say for sure if itâs unsafe, but it definitely didnât feel comfortable to walk around after dark.
The hotel is far from Bordeauxâs nicer central areas, about 25â30 minutes on foot, so if you want a proper dinner or to explore the city, youâll need to take a scooter, tram, or taxi.
Overall, itâs fine for one night or a 12-hour stop if you need to be close to the train station and donât mind the very basic setup. You get exactly what you pay for â no surprises, good or bad.
