Joe & Miriam (sp?) were very friendly and engaging hosts. We went to the Caracol Mayan site and also did a boat/swimming/waterfall tour. Joe is very knowledgeable about Mayan ruins. He is most enthusiastic about showing you his native country. Miriam is a great cook. We thoroughly enjoyed our jungle experience.
We stayed at Martz farm for 3 nights, from 24th till 26th December, during our recent trip to Belize.
It is one of the best eco-farms we ever stayed and we had an amazing time enjoying various activities while also bonding with Jo, Miriam, Lucas and Joshua.
What really trumps above all is the personal touch, ‘being cared for’ that we experienced while staying there.
Our boys had a great time interacting with the dogs, cats, horses. Chewing and swallowing on a whole habanero pepper is something they will never forget.
Our top 3 that we loved the most 👇
1. Miriam’s cooking and her delicious meals
2. Jo’s narration of his poems and his passion for eco-living
3. Lucas boat riding on the river and his ability to spot wildlife.
Overall highly recommended 👍
We, a family of 4 had an amazing 5-night stay and experiences at Martz farm.
Miriam, Joe, Lucas and Joshua are great hosts and we cannot thanks enough for their genuine and warm Belizean hospitality and sharing their unique jungle farm life with us, the city dwellers.
We stayed at the Tree house. It’s a must!! We truly enjoyed every moments and parts of the tree house. We have travelled a lot in different parts of the world and stayed at different settings. The tree house became one of our favorites!! We fell a sleep every nights listening to the cascading waterfall by the tree house and lay on a hammock reading a book while howling moneys were playing on trees right by us.
Miriam and Joe also helped us planning all of our excursions including a Pontoon boat tour, half day horse riding through the jungle, Tikal sunset and Day tours, ATM cave tour. We very much enjoyed all of them and the tour guides arranged by Miriam and Joe were superb!
It’s truly one of the most memorable trips that we’ve ever done. We already look forward to our next trip back at Martz Farm!!

Great for camping and outdoors experience, had a nice horse ride with guild. Lady staff was pushy and difficult. Kind of a acquired taste.
Beautiful horse farm in the lush inland part of the Cayo district in Belize. The family treats you like you’re family with wonderful hospitality, fresh home cooked meals, and great personal tour options. Full of history and natural beauty this is an awesome off the beaten path authentic adventure for anyone who enjoys an escape and something much more real than the basic tourist scene. Can’t wait to go back!
Although off the grid all main comforts are in place - electricity in the garden rooms, phone chargers, hot water, nice rooms, no bugs, etc. Miriam also cooked phenomenal meals. Off the grid in lush beautiful setting but with all the comforts needed!
This is a magnificent property located near the Guatemalan border. If you want to see all of Belize, rent a car and travel out to Martz farm and experience a little piece of heaven. I cant say enough good things about this place!! The tree house was an ultimate glamping dream come true, w your own personal waterfall. The family is warm and inviting, and if your hungry they have you covered, lol. I didnt eat for two days after leaving the farm, Miriam is an awesome cook. We went on a pontoon trip down the river with their son, bring your binoculars, he can see everything! Had an awome time climbing waterfalls w him, he was a knowledgeable, kind, and helpful guide. We also saw the Mayan Temples and cave tubed w Joe. That was an unbelizable adventure!
I cant say enough great things about this location, and the family,
spent 9 days in a special place; remote, beautiful.
in a convivial atmosphere.
The hosts are amazing people, in addition to be extremely attentive at your needs, any questions you may have, very professional in an off-grid setting.
I intend to go back. I loved my stay overthere; no phone, no TV, so much peace
Stayed at Martz Farm for our second time. It was just as amazing and memorable as the first time!! The Martinez family is so kind and inviting, you can’t help but fall in love with them, and their oasis in the jungle is just beautiful!! This won’t be our last visit to Martz Farm!!
This is a must do experience! Joe and Miriam and their kids are so kind, welcoming, helpful, and know so much about the area. I stayed in the treehouse, and it was such a relaxing, beautiful stay. Perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature.
The property is a bit off the main road, which was a good thing. I stayed in the tree house, which was a great experience. The food was excellent. The hosts, Jose and Miriam are lovely people with great personalities. Great People. Got to meet their three kids. Very disciplined and good kids. The place is a paradise. I would definitely stay there again and I highly recommend the farm. If you're looking for a party place, stay away. This is a peoples tranquil place. Detox your stress and reenergize your routine and mindset.
For over a week in Belize this was my favorite stop. The treehouse was an amazing experience. We had howler monkeys right next to us in the trees. The owners dog stayed with us which was nice! The hosts were incredibly kind and the food was amazing. The location couldn’t have been better. Excellent birding and other wildlife opportunities. My boyfriend and I loved it and highly recommend staying at the farm!!!
Stayed in the tree house near a small waterfall. Amazing experience. The tree house does not have walls. Just a thatched roof. No electricity. Very different from what we are used to. But it was a great experience. The beds were very comfortable. There were nets over the bed but didn't notice any mosquitoes or bugs. Sometimes you can hear the howling monkeys.
Good food and great service.
The access road to the farmhouse is pretty bad. No paved road. Avoid reaching here after dark. We took Williams Shuttles to/ from the farmhouse.
My husband and I stayed in this property to celebrate my 40th birthday and it was a last minute trip. There is absolutely not one thing I could complain about! Our entire stay was fabulous. If you are looking for adventure, staying off the grid, and amazing hospitality this is the place to stay! As soon as we got back home we began planning our return! Can't wait to share this special place with our kids!
A peaceful place in the middle of the jungle.
Our hosts Miriam and Joe were excetionnals, you are almost a part of their family.
We were in one of the cabins with electricity. These are minimalist rooms but it stays in the spirit of the huts in the middle of the jungle.
They advise you and offer tours (ruins, caves....).
Their boat tour is exceptional with stopping points to look for waterfalls and their horseback riding too.
On the other hand access to the farm is quite difficult but it is worth it and the internet access is limited for addicts to social networks.
The best family vacation we've ever had. The stay at Martz Farm was incredible. Joe and Miriam are great hosts.
We stayed in the Garden Cabin, which had two queen beds, a dresser, and full bathroom -- and NO electricity. Showering by candlelight is fun (which one is shampoo? Who knows!). Bring flashlights and lanterns! No WIFI. No cell service. Exactly what we needed.
The worst part of the farm is the 9.5 miles on VERY bumpy gravel road - takes about 45 minutes in your own rental car, but if you have Joe pick you up ... it's about 15 minutes. The cabin was true "glamping" - the sounds of the jungle lull you to sleep every night. Blissful.
We truly enjoyed Miriam's cooking (paid for separately, but included with every stay). Full breakfasts and hearty dinners -- just grab your own beer or wine to put in the fridge. We also had Miriam book our excursions, which were all amazing. Horseback riding at sunset with Joe, a tour of ATM cave, and a full day climbing and jumping off waterfalls on the pontoon boat. Each day had adventure and fun for everyone in the family, and the other families at the farm provided friendship and great story-telling around our mealtimes.
I *highly* recommend this truly unique and amazing experience. If you're looking for a "resort" style vacation, this isn't it. If you want a clear blue swimming hole outside your thatched-roof cabin, with chickens, horses, dogs and monkeys all around you -- this is the place.
For our entire 5 day stay here we truly felt like family here. The owners Mirium and Joe are very friendly and look after all your needs to the tiniest detail. Our youngest daughter can’t stop talking about her horseback ride with Joe through the jungle. We all had a wonderful time here exploring the beauty of Belize and it’s wonderful people. The road into the resort is rough to say the least but the destination is truly worth it. Would certainly go back.
