Hilton Garden Inn Umhlanga Arch

10/10 Excellent

"I used to use the Hilton in central Durban it now that’s switched hands I come to this one instead. Very safe to walk to the beach one mile away Walkable to the gateway shopping mall (700 meters). Staff excellent and very helpful. Lovely little well Maintained gym and outdoor pool area. Undercover parking for less than a few USD per night. Happy hour each night for three hours and awesome TV in room with loads and loads of domestic and international channels. Definitely well worth the money."

"This hotel is a superb gem in Salt Rock. It is very nicely decorated properly making you feel as if you are in Provence. The rooms are stunning and the communal areas are great. I loved that the top pool gets sun light all day long making it perfect for lounging and tanning. The breakfast is great - amazing fried eggs !! The staff is super helpful and always smiling. The property is very close to the beach and about 15 min walk to restaurants bars and a grocery shop so you are all covered. I would stay here again in a whim"

"We had a really memorable stay at this beautifully situated hotel. The setting is genuinely special - it feels like something out of The Jungle Book, surrounded by lush greenery with crystal-clear pools that create a relaxing, almost magical atmosphere. The standout for us was the team; the staff were incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely caring throughout our stay, which made a big difference. The amenities across the resort are exceptional. The “Valley of the Pools” and “Bushbuck Club” are fantastic spaces, catering brilliantly to both families and couples. These areas really elevate the overall experience and give the hotel a unique edge. Where the hotel falls slightly short is in the upkeep of the hotel itself. While it does retain a certain charm and character, it did feel a little dated compared to the standard you might expect. Some of the modern comforts were lacking – the shower pressure was quite weak, a few doors were stiff, and some handles were loo se. The furnishings, although perhaps intended to feel eclectic, came across more as mismatched and slightly out of place rather than thoughtfully styled. Importantly, none of this detracted from our overall enjoyment, and we still had a fantastic stay. However, with some thoughtful investment and modernisation in the rooms, this hotel has the potential to move from a very good 4-star experience to a truly outstanding 5-star destination."
