"We stayed at the Sunbird Lodge for 3 nights, and it was very peaceful and quiet. It had two twin beds, a set of bunk beds, small kitchenette, television, air conditioning, desk and chair, as well as outdoor patio. The pool was clean and extremely warm, but refreshing. "Shindzela offers the type of safari experience that is sadly dying out, to be replaced by glitzy, costly options that separate visitors from the real bush. Our guide was excellent; calm & professional even when another group was shrieking and whooping (TIP, wild animals prefer quiet). Our tracker was keen-eyed, polite and focussed. The cooking/cleaning staff clearly took pride in their work. I feel Shindzela is excellent value for money and should form a part of many more travellers' trips....

"Staying with the sisters who run the property and the other staff became increasingly pleasant with every passing day. Plus, I was more than comfortable in my room, where they don't skimp on pillows for those of us who like to sit up in bed to work. "Property is nice and well kept. But.... the power went off 2 hours after we arrived. No lights, no wifi, no water. Once the sun was up I found instructions for turning the cold water on if the power goes out, so we at least got toilets working. About 8am a security guard came to the house and said he knew the power had been out. Since the security system was down, I assume the owner had been called the night before as well. "Gorgeous lodge near Kruger with a pottery workshop on site. Bring your own dinner and you can relax around the fire at night and listen to the hyenas.
