Lovely modern hotel in good location in Ueno - near the action, but in a slightly quieter area. We picked Ueno for a 1-night stay after returning from skiing up north, as we felt being near the train to Narita Airport would be beneficial. While this hotel is near the train station, it is on the side furthest away from the Airport line, which meant for quite a long walk while dragging a ski bag. If you are travelling lighter than us though, it is worth the walk. Room was large by Tokyo standards and was well equipped (however only tea available, no coffee in the room). Excellent shower. Lovely smelling body wash. Very comfortable bed (decently firm). The welcome drink from a machine was a bit strange - it might of been nicer to be served a drink downstairs in the bar/restaurant instead, but still a comfortable seating area near the welcome drink location. Overall a brief but very pleasant stay.

Clean rooms, great service, beautiful hotel!

The hotel decor and staff were what we would expect from a five star hotel. The rooftop bar and restaurant were also exceptional. However, the room and decor was very dated and limited and not at all like a five star and more like a two or three star hotel. The most concerning part was the amount of noise that was created at night from cars driving a nearby streets, I actually could not believe it and it woke us up several times even with earplugs and taking sleeping medication. There should be more done to noise, cancellation, windows, shades, etc.. I know it is an older hotel but the rooms need to be updated anyway and this really is a very critical part of this day - sleep, especially when every other amenity is consistent with a 5 star, but the decor and the noise definitely were not. We also did not receive any coffee on the second morning, and I had to find a housekeeping person to get them.

wonderful room, club level is excellent with beautiful views of the city and attentive customer service.

We loved our stay at the Kimpton! Such a great location, friendly staff, nice and clean hotel with awesome concierge (every restaurant rec was superb). It’s also very well located and an easy walk to Shinjuku station- or honestly anywhere else if you’re walkers like us! The daily social hour is so cute and we enjoyed some nice wine our first night. However the best part of the stay was meeting Iwayan downstairs at The Jones coffee bar. He greeted us warmly every morning and treated us to a free coffee/matcha off the list for hotel guests (this is a perk we didn’t know about). We loved seeing our friend each morning!!
