Discover the geological history of the Yosemite Valley, pick up trail maps and shop for souvenirs at this portal to Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite Visitor Center presents a superb introduction to the history and majestic scenery of Yosemite National Park. The center is many people’s first port of call when visiting the park. Come here to chat with knowledgeable rangers and plan your discovery of the park and valley. Find interactive exhibits that highlight the park’s varied geological features, vegetation and wildlife.

Start your visit by watching the Spirit of Yosemite short movie. Relive the journey taken by an adventurous film crew who traveled to some of Yosemite’s most isolated areas. Get an insight into the park’s magnitude, its preservation and its earliest inhabitants.

Stroll around the exhibition hall to discover a series of educational and hands-on displays. Learn how the valley and mountains were formed, who protects the region and why so many plant species prosper here. See illustrations of the varied wildlife that inhabits the park. Peek inside a model bear cave and crawl through a sequoia tree. Listen to the authentic sounds of animals and extreme weather conditions.

Go to the information desk, where you can speak to a team of friendly park rangers. Ask them questions and create an itinerary for your trip in Yosemite National Park. Find out about major landmarks such as Glacier Point lookout, Half Dome granite rock and Yosemite Falls. Gather brochures and trail maps to further aid your vacation.

Take a moment to browse the center’s shop. Purchase keepsakes, including photography books, postcards and slogan T-shirts.

The Yosemite Visitor Center is located in the heart of Yosemite Village and is open daily. The free Valley Shuttle bus stops outside and parking is available on the surrounding streets.

While here, be sure to visit other nearby cultural centers. Admire the work of the revered American photographer Ansel Adams, among other artists, at the Ansel Adams Gallery. Experience the lifestyles of the Ahwahneechee people, walk through the replica of an indigenous village and peruse rotating art installations at Yosemite Museum.
