A Hidden Gem
I loved this place. It's a surprising oasis right on Old Hwy 99, surrounded by trees with a great vintage feel, beautifully landscaped and lush, with all kinds of birds singing and gorgeous flowers and plants everywhere, and a rooster crowing in the morning. If you're attached to chain hotels like Hilton, however, you probably won't care for it. This place is for people who prefer character, natural beauty and history over new, sterilized, and shiny. The room was adequately clean, certainly somewhat dated, but it was fine. I was sorry the pool wasn't in order, but maybe next year. Meanwhile, it's a great, inexpensive place to stay if you're traveling up or down the 5. Eduardo, the manager, was wonderful. He does all the landscaping and is passionately attached to his plants.

Vintage (1960's) U-shaped motel with parking in front of each room. Lots of trees.

Look, I personally love this type of motel, but its not for everyone (most people?). As a race track regular for the last two decades, I have stayed here numerous times. This is a well past its prime motor court from back in the heyday of when driving was part of the adventure rather than something that is tolerated for the least time possible. For me, the best attribute is the peaceful and quiet location. It's a 5 minute drive to Willows, but none of the unfamiliar manic energy of 24-hour commerce, bright gas stations, and random shenanigans common with most other interstate accommodations. There are plenty of reviews detailing the deferred maintenance and evidence of the financial realities of trying to keep an outlying property that is all but invisible to most travelers going, so I won't pile on. I guess I would summarize the Blue Gum Motel like this; if you're wound up tight and are prone to leaving negative reviews because of cracked tiles and spotty internet, then don't even bother. If you appreciate a place with some "character", have a good sense of perspective on what it is and why its like this, and are up to date on all your shots (I'm kidding) then you might give this place a try.

They were not aware of my reservation when I showed up. I heard the same thing from other people staying there that had booked through Expedia. They had to scramble to find rooms for people because they weren't paying attention to what bookings they had. The property looks alright in pictures, but not so much in person. The pool is empty save for about a foot of dirty water and trash in the bottom of it. The key to my room said it was a key to a different room. There were very noisy guests that stayed loud until late in the night, but the onsite manager never did anything to try to quiet them down as they were yelling inside and outside of their room.

booked room through Orbitz, read reviews. The front desk gave me a room that looked like a murder had happened there in 1989. everything in the room was broken and dirty. They had no idea I had my dog with me, I looked for a pet friendly hotel through Orbitz, you guys should refund or voucher me for this. I'll never go back.

It took over an hour of waiting to check in, calling with no answer, noone at the front desk in person. Guy checking me in seemed to be on amphetamines or some kind of drug, then proceeded to give me a key to the wrong room. Spend an extra $20 and go somewhere nice

The grounds looked nice. But the bed was old. Antenna T.V. only had 1 channel. The toilet took a long time to fill. Hoodlums came up to husbands truck at night. Had to warn them to stay away.

I had a reservation and I arrived during check-in time. They told me they had no available rooms. Yet they said they had rooms available online on many different websites. I believe I was turned away because of my skin color. The front desk clerk was not a nice person. He wouldn’t even look at my reservation information.

Bring your own towel
No cable TV, no WiFi, limited cell service. Filthy towels with stains all over them. Had to explain to the motel clerk that I had a reservation after being told that they had no rooms available during check in. On the upside, this place does NOT appear to be infested with cockroaches and bedbugs which is more than I can say about some of the other accommodations in town (I.e Baymont Inn).

We do have satellite TV & WiFi but due to our location not in the city, we have limited service. Our satellite & WiFi tower is also affected by the weather - raining, windy, smoky air. it’s out of our control. About the towels, staff has been reminded to triple-check the towels in the rooms - common human error but it won’t happen again. Thanks.

sewer was broken and toilet did not flush and the manager seamed like he was on drugs and really weird like he rushed to the room and directly to the bathroom like he had to hide something also the internet was not working so he could not charge my card when i checked out the next day i stopped at the front and dropped my key and asked the manager if everything was ok and went through he said ya everything is fine now a couple days later mysteriously my card is not working and they need me to provide some other form of payment it seams really really fishy to me and the day i left that place i was wondering if i was going to have to file fraud claims against this place for false charges or over charges looks like i have to keep and eye on this card

Hi Jeremie, when you came in the manager told you upfront that we had problem with the internet & the sewage but even when we're not able to charge your card at that time we gave you a room & you accepted it coz you said you just need a place to sleep. We even gave you a free upgrade from Standard Queen to Deluxe Queen room. We tried to charge your card after you left when we had the internet back & it was declined so I messaged you to provide another form of payment. That's standard procedure. You messaged me back to try run your card again with a different zip code coz your card works but it was still declined. There's no fishy, mysterious, fraud or false charges that we're doing. We're only charging your card for the night you stayed, nothing more. How can that be over charge when we haven't even charge you a single penny coz your card has been declined? Meaning you stayed for free & you called that fraud, false charge or over charges? This is a legitimate business & like I mentioned earlier you accepted the room even though you were told about the problem upfront & also those things happened out of our control. Sometimes those things just happen.

We reserved here due to it being listed as 3 star, where other lodging in the area was only 2 star. That is soooo incorrect. There were fuzz bunnies in the soap dish, plus had that fresh can of Lysol smell. I slept in my clothes and didn't shower. It also listed continental breakfast but the office was closed.

The front desk clerk/manager is a complete jerk. I arrived at 9 and the office was empty. I assumed the manager would be back so I waited in my car parked in front. Some guy came up to my door and said in a very aggressive tone, move your car, that's my space. Since I was right in front of the office, it made no sense so I asked who he was. Manager. I said I'm trying to check in. He said if you don't move your car you aren't checking in. Ok. After I moved I saw I wasn't in his space but he wanted to drive through the space I was in so he didn't have to parallel park - he could drive straight into "his spot". I went in an just kinda joking sais maybe you should put up a sign. I had no idea I couldn't park there. He looked at me and said "I can refuse service to anyone and I don't have a room for you". I said I reserved a non-refundable room through Orbitz. He said you won't get charged but you aren't staying here. I drove 30 minutes back to Williams and stayed in a nicer and cheaper Motel 6 (everything else in Willows was booked). Be on your best behavior when you check into this place is all I can say. And don't park in front of the office.

Good family hotel, reasonably priced even if it was a little bit outside of town. Very quiet and clean overall. Only downside was that they do not provide Wi-Fi. But otherwise thumbs up.

We do get a lot of compliments on our bed. Sorry about our Wi-Fi, it's off & on due to our location. Breakfast is from 7 - 9:30 am. If you come earlier or laterthan this time, then no breakfast.

Very quiet, located away from I5 on old Hiway 99. This is a retro country motel from the 70's or 80's. Nice size rooms, very clean. Simple but comfortable furnishings.

A bit of history
A nice place, nostalgic look at life back in the 1960’s. room was fine , carpeting is dated and should be replaced. The gardening and landscaping is beautiful. Coffee is provided in room, no breakfast available. There is a fridge in room for your own stuff.we will definitely return, locates in old highway , 3 miles from freeway, quiet at night.
