Really Lovely
Had a wonderful stay, Elizabeth is a fantastic hostess, chef, conversationalist and all around humanitarian. Loved all the extra touches you don't get in a hotel, hot tea, organic apples, exquisite soaps, fine books and chimes from antique clocks. I would highly recommend Elizabeth's Tavern to anyone who is looking to experience an immersive "colonial feel" with all the comforts of modern day living.

Under renovation
Too pricy for this hotel.

Dominique, I'm confused about your saying the Tavern is "Under renovation" - and that it is 'Too pricy'. There's literally nothing currently being renovated in or on the Tavern and given the availability and your sole use of the 'sitting room' others have seen 'high value' to the pricing. Please help me to better understand what you are saying? Thank you.

My husband and I needed a place to stay on our way to Maine. The Fletcher Tavern was perfect. We were greeted by the owner, had an enjoyable evening, and very comfortable night. In the morning, a delicious “English” breakfast was skillfully repaired for us after having a plate of fresh fruit. The Tavern is a lovely historic home run by an interesting and engaging owner. We are very pleased we chose to stay there.

Alicia, I'll confess that your review gave me pause! Of COURSE I would tidy up your room. Of COURSE I would spontaneously and caringly hang up in your closet the four outer-wear sweaters left 'here and there' in your room....and then, of course, with guests consistently being requested to leave their shoes in the Entry to the Tavern, I carried a pair of your shoes downstairs (that you had sitting on the floor of your room) and left them in the Entry. Pity you didn't feel 'cared for' and taken care of! Meanwhile, may the preparations for your daughter's wedding be joy-full and may you, too, continue to experience positives of the unfolding activities! I wish you all the best.

The EXPEDIA listing stated that the room we booked ("Room with a View" on 2nd floor) had air conditioning. IT DID NOT have it's own A/C. The property website does not state anything about A/C, so perhaps the fault lies with communications between Expedia and the proprietor. The property was very clean, well kept & decorated beautifully. But it was extremely hot that week & the proprietor told us to turn on the window A/C unit in the PUBLIC sitting room across the hall, and place the box fan in our OPEN bedroom door to pull the cool air into our room. There were people booked in the other 2 rooms, so we felt VERY uncomfortable leaving our door wide open all night. Two of the 3 windows in our room were sealed shut, and the 3rd opened onto the street and there was no breeze. A note to anyone with mobility issues: this room is on the 2nd floor, has a tub with a shower nozzle but no enclosure and no safety rails.
Stayed 1 night in Jul 2018
Response from Elizabeth on 16 Aug 2018
My apologies that Expedia listed Room With a View as having air conditioning. They've now corrected the description. Thank you for pointing out the error! Meanwhile, I'm puzzled about your using the word 'public' for the sitting room, since no one was staying in the adjoining bedroom. No other guests joined you for breakfast simply because there were no other guests here! Meanwhile, I put a thermometer in your room so you would know and be reassured as to what the actual temperature of your room was. Indeed, it was 70 degrees F when you arrived and never got above 72 whilst you were here, did it? I would have thought that your having not one but TWO fans to use in your room AND your door closed would have been more than 'comfortable'! NO windows in the Tavern were being opened ANY night during the time you were here since the temperature was not getting below 80 degrees at night!. Why would anyone open or want to open a window and let in hot air? The page available with guidance re the Tavern (in guests' bedrooms) does request that windows NOT be opened unless the outside temperature is cooler than the inside temperature! How sad that your room was indeed comfortably cool with the door closed and yet you were not happy. It was your choice as to whether you left your bedroom door open or closed it during the night (whilst using the two fans). I am truly sorry you were so unhappy - in spite of your room consistently (as long as the windows were closed!) being comfortably cool! Meanwhile, I wish you all the best.....

Colonial Charm, Red-Coat Rules
The accommodations and ambiance were amazing. Very quaint, quintessentially colonial and English charming in gardens and decor. It was all I expected in terms of the center of Westford and Old Academy Hill. Elizabeth, the inn-keeper, was an amazing culinary breakfast cook who took every consideration of her guests dietary needs. However, Elizabeth's 2-pages of rules, need for notes instead of conversation, and inability to interact in a pleasant and warm way made the stay uncomfortable. Her presence, at times, gave a fearful air to the room as if you did not want to inconvenience her or not meet with her expectations in any way, lest you'd be scolded. No-one wants that on a trip of relaxation. If Elizabeth were to smile more, be concerned less about guests messing up her "house" and be more open to the possibility of joy, she may find some rewards in Inn Ownership other than money. And, she may also find more repeat customers, such as myself.

Nice Change from the Hotel Chains
I was lucky enough to choose Fletcher Tavern for my recent business trip to Westford. What a lovely change from staying at the usual business hotels. It’s a really charming place to stay. Elizabeth is a perfect hostess, preparing varies and delicious breakfasts and making all guests welcome. It was lovely to meet some interesting people and enjoy good conversation. I also found some pleasant and historic places to walk nearby, including Walden Pond and the (Revolutionary) Battle Road as well as local trails.

To go back in time...
I’ve spent many days traveling alone, but this time was with my wife and I wanted it to be special in every sense of the word. Honestly, I didn’t expect much from the stay at the Fletcher house, but it proved to be one of the most memorable ones in my life. You might find it odd that a bed and breakfast could have such an affect, but the history of the home, the authenticity and style of the breakfast served each morning along with the warm heart and conversation from our host made this a pleasant and comforting stay. We’ve done nothing but rehash our time in Maine and Massachusetts, but our stay here, was and will be high on our list forever.

Using a Bed & Breakfast is a choice to experience something new. Fletcher Tavern is a lovely historic home with beautiful gardens and comfortable clean and spacious private accommodations. Interesting and stimulating conversation is available at breakfast if desired. The varied breakfast menu was served in an appealing presentation. The food was delicious. Fresh local fruits and baked goods were among the offerings. We stayed four nights enjoying the cool New England Spring weather.

Charming 18th century house. Very good breakfasts. But the hostess is not at all service minded. Despite a pre-warning that I would be late, due to circumstances beyond my control, she stuck firmly to her "latest check-in 10 pm" policy and refused to open the door or pick up the phone when I arrived at 11.30 pm. I had to continue through the night in search for another hotel, a $200 extra unwanted cost. She also refused to reimburse the already paid expense for 3 nights, so I ended up staying there the two last nights. At arrival, instead of showing me the way to the room, she followed behind me trying to explain to me route through this rather mazy old house. When I, exhausted after a sleepless night and a long workday was unable immediately follow her instructions she showed clear signs of being annoyed. So yes, this B&B feels like home, but that comes with you mom, too, and not on any of her better days.
Stayed 3 nights in May 2018
Response from Elizabeth on 20 May 2018
Jon, I'm sorry that you were so put off by your experiences. What a shame. The Policy for the Tavern is, hopefully, clearly available before guests make their reservations, re guests needing to arrive between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. At 11:30 at night I was sound asleep, getting a night's sleep so I could get up at 6 a.m. to prepare breakfasts for the other guests. There's no 'extra staff' here as there would be at a hotel, to help you with your very late check in (virtually never possible at the Tavern!). Your earlier comment through Expedia was that it was very easy to find another room.....yet here you've told a different story. Additionally, guests easily simply go through TWO 'open doors' to find their rooms, with no help from me, not an issue for most. Meanwhile, you were upgraded to the Eastlake Suite.... Did you realise, did you hear and see that the owner 'upgraded' your room such that you had a private sitting room along with your spacious bedroom and stand-up shower? With your clearly being so miserable on arrival, it's also sadly clear that you were neither aware of the warm hospitality of the owner nor the exceptional setting of Fletcher Tavern that hotels cannot match !! I wish you all the best, Jon, including gentle happiness, and the presence to know when life is bestowing you with rich gifts such as you had here in Fletcher Tavern.

Thank you for taking the time to write your two word review ("Historical home"), Judy. Actually, before your arrival you had requested both a "gluten AND dairy free" breakfast. It took me a bit of research to learn about 'gluten free'; however, on your behalf I did take the time to learn more....and warmly presented you with a beautiful, scrumptious breakfast as requested ! I honestly wonder, given this setting and exceptional hospitality of Fletcher Tavern as an 'historical home', plus the degree of warm, person-centered interaction of the owner with guests, what you lacked such that you were unable to gave us a '5' out of '5' ? Meanwhile, I do wish you all the best.

Although I'm undoubtedly a good 20 years older than either of you, I carried each of your two VERY heavy pieces of luggage up the stairs for you, taking one step and then the next step when you angrily said that you could not do so. Then Arun chose to follow me up (yes, a slow step-by-step process!) insisting and insisting I show him the bathroom NOW, as I slowly progressed up the stairs. Extraordinary- and sad to have been in such a beautiful place and respond as you did!! Bless. I wish you all the best.

Beautifully and thoughtfully furnished. Hostess enjoys getting to know her guests and is well informed about all that Westford and other area towns have to offer. Elegant English breakfast in the garden! Hummingbirds abound. One added convenience would be a small (dorm-room size) refrigerator in the common sittingroom for guests' use, as there is no other refrigeration available for guests.

Excellent Place to Stay
We loved our stay at the Fletcher Tavern Bed & Breakfast, a cozy inn located in Westford, MA. There are three bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms, all decorated with beautiful antique furnishings. It was the first time we've ever slept in a feather bed- what a treat! The room also has a sitting area, stocked with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh fruit and chocolates! Each morning, Elizabeth cooked up a to-die-for fresh breakfast, often with local and organic ingredients. This was served in the dining room, with a beautiful view of the garden. Wow- it just couldn't get any better than that. On occasion, Elizabeth joined us for conversation, something we thoroughly enjoyed.

Affordable & Convenient
I've stayed here three times and I would stay here again. It's affordable (about $100 - $150 less per night than hotels closer to the boardwalk), nice access to the beach with clean beachside pool, great continental breakfast (better than I've had at higher priced hotels), and quiet.

I'm thinking that you may have 'switched' your comments, intending what you wrote (re the Tavern) for another site - and, perhaps, vice versa. Actually, Forge Pond is within Westford, just a wee bit over two miles from the Tavern. As a sacred site for the local Indians in Colonial times, it's worth a visit..... Again, thank you!

We needed to be in the area for business. This inn was easy to find from RT 495 and offered a nice change from sterile, look-alike hotel rooms. The full breakfast was amazing, the antiques were intriguing and our host was helpful.

Very nice accommodations with lots of charm!
My husband and I were given a gift of an overnight stay at Fletcher Tavern B&B in Westford, Massachusetts by our two daughters. The house was filled with many historical antiques - including a doll house and dolls which we very much appreciated. There were many attractive antique grandfather clocks and various other nice clocks, and also a Tiffany one in our room as well. I just loved the old fashioned feeling of the old doors and beautiful original hardwood floors, stairs and woodwork throughout the home. There was a beautiful piano in one of the rooms downstairs, and also a beautifully finished lovely polished dining room table and chairs where we ate a delicious breakfast of fruit, organic yogurt, and a yummy egg, bacon, beans, mushroom and roasted tomato that was in a lovely presentation for us and the other two guests. It was a very wonderful experience having a meal with two lovely young people who were very sweet and smart, and we had a great conversation. One of the perks of a B&B is that you get to meet new people. We also slept well in the comfortable bed, loved the powder room which had a warmed "throne seat"! Also there was a jetted tub if I had more time there I would have used! The hostess was an elegant woman who treated us with grace and kindness. This is also Elizabeth Fletcher's home, and she is full of pride - as she should be.

For sure, you were truly the 'Perfect' guests. I was so pleased to have you here and loved sharing my home with you. I do hope you will return in the not-to-distant future.
