I realize it’s not The Four Seasons, but there is a certain expectation that gets set when one is paying over $350 a night for a hotel room. This hotel did not meet it and it was the only time I have ever asked for a different room (and I have traveled a LOT). I was given a large dark corner room (it had only one tiny window), which might not have been as much of a problem, except that all of the lamps in my room flickered eerily. The air-conditioner was not working properly - it took three hours to cool the room 3° and sadly smelled faintly of onions (typical of mold in an hvac). The tub faucet was pulling out of the wall and there was peeling paint and wallpaper in a number of corners of the room and bathroom. I could also feel the springs in the mattress. Honest to Pete, it was like a bad movie. A local shopkeeper I was chatting with told me the room might’ve been haunted lol.
On a positive note, I received excellent service from all of the staff at the hotel who really went out of their way to help me. Also housekeeping did a very good job cleaning the rooms.
It is certainly a great location, but it is a shame to see such a beautiful building being poorly cared for (the hallways weren’t bad but the elevators were in poor condition). It is likely I would only return to the hotel as a last resort.
