Vulqano Park (Parque Vulqano) is an all-ages amusement park featuring more than 20 different attractions, including roller coasters, swings, carousels and carnival-style games. Vulqano Park lies at the base of Pichincha volcano and offers stunning views of Quito and the surrounding mountains. Get your adrenaline pumping on Vulqano Park’s roller coasters or take a gentle ride on a carousel pony while enjoying the picturesque views.
The attractions at the park range from family-friendly mechanical swings, children’s train rides and playgrounds, to exhilarating bungee rides and surf simulators. Race a couple of laps at the amusement park’s exciting kart track or experience the thrilling anticipation of the Ejection Seat ride. Rides for younger children include a colourful mini pirate ship and a fun convoy race. Enjoy drinks and refreshments at the visitor centre, which includes a food court and restaurants.
Vulqano Park lies at the base of TelefériQo, the gondola that runs from Quito up the eastern side of Pichincha. TelefériQo is one of the highest aerial lifts in the world and features a range of restaurants, cafés and stores at its 12,943-foot (3,945-metre) peak. After an enjoyable day exploring the amusement park, take a ride on the gondola to the Cruz Loma lookout point. Enjoy magnificent views of Quito and the surrounding mountain ranges. From here, you can embark on a hike to Rucu Pichincha, the smaller peak of Pichincha. The hike takes approximately three hours, and it is recommended that you travel with a local guide.
Located on the outer edge of Quito, Vulqano Park is approximately 3.1 miles (5 kilometres) north of Independence Square and the Old Town. The amusement park is free to enter, but individual rides and games have separate costs. Admission to the TelefériQo gondola ride also costs extra. Vulqano Park operates with a swipe card system, and cards can be recharged at the visitor centre. The park is open daily, and metered parking is available on-site.
