The streets are lined with oranges at the moment. January must be the season as the orchards are full also. This photo was taken in the pretty village of Vera Pueblo which retains some of its Spanish charm compared with the coastal development of Vera Playa. However, looking at the amount of oranges splattered on the road, I would not want to have parked my car underneath them

Book a holiday to Vera and discover the breathtaking nature, great historical heritage and extensive fine-sand beaches.

Enjoy a cheap trip to Vera and experience a real melting pot of cultures, a town with almost two millennia of history: from the Carthaginian Barea, the Roman and Arabic Baria to modern-day Vera. All this is reflected in the municipal historical archive, and you can see it for yourself thanks to the archaeological remains that are preserved to this day.

Check out our package deals to Vera and discover the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, a fortified church from the 16th century. Carlos I ordered it to be built to protect the town from attacks by pirates. If you get close, you’ll see the very thick walls and the narrow arrow slits. The building lacks catacombs, as an aquifer was created underneath the church to provide refugees with water in case of assault.

Plaza Mayor is the main meeting place in the city, surrounded by the church and the town hall. In the centre of the square, your eye will be drawn to the romantic cast-iron fountain from the mid-19th century. If you feel like getting something to eat or drink, this is the ideal place, a quiet place to relax after a long day of sightseeing.

The archaeological site of the Cerro del Espíritu Santo sits on an eroded hill to the west of the village. The archaeological remains range from prehistoric times and Late Roman to the Muslim occupation. In this enclave, surrounded by the town walls with its towers, is an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The impressive views from the viewpoint at the peak are the perfect end to the tour.

Walk along the seafront promenade that runs parallel to the Playa de Las Marinas Bolaga beach and where you will find numerous sports and cultural activities such as concerts and jet ski championships. You can also sunbathe or practice your favourite water sports in beaches such as El Playazo or Quitapellejos.

8.6/10 Excellent! (375 reviews)
Everything was great and the only reason for a 4* review rather than 5* was that the rooms are a little dated, there was a wedding going on so the bar was noisy and no entertainment for non-wedding guests and the food for the evening buffet was cold. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel!

9.2/10 Wonderful! (136 reviews)
The staff were amazing and went over and above to help. The breakfast was the best I have ever had. The bathroom was a bit tired and could have done with a freshen up. Lovely to have a little fridge in the room. The pool area was spotless and a really beautiful pool with comfortable sun beds

A great small resort , easy access to a slightly larger town of Garrucha. A very good base to explore the local area, 10 minutes by car to Mojacar. Lots to do for all tastes.Recommend 'The Bristo' for a 3 course menu with great gluten free options
